Cold, Brrrrrrr

Why is it that when you show a vacant house that has the heat off, it feels colder inside than outside?

What are your thoughts and theory?

Hi Steve, My thought is because it's insulated which helps prevent the warmer air outside from entering the house and warming it up. I don't know if that's accurate or not, but it's my guess.

No kidding, it's hard to get that "warm and cozy" feeling if you can see your breath!  The wood feels "hollow" and you doubt if the home will even hold heat!

I was in one tonight and believe me, there was no warm air outside trying to get in. brrrrrrr

Thanks Jan.  Your theory sounds as good as any I have heard of.

Thanks for your comments Wanda and Susan.  With the number of foreclosed homes on the market, we are seeing more "cold" houses than ever before and it is definitely hard to get that "warm and cozy" feeling!

For the same reason that in the summer it seems hotter inside than out in non air conditioned homes.

You are right!  Maybe it's the non-movement of air!
