We're entering a new decade - and ready to think about how to make 2010 our best year yet.
1. Celebrate your accomplishments.
Even if it's something small, take a little time to celebrate the things you've worked hard to accomplish. Focus on the positive.
2. Do something you can be proud of.
No matter what the task, take pride in your work. Sometimes the job doesn't matter as much as how well we do it. Look at your short term and long term goals - what kind of legacy are you leaving behind?
3. You're in charge now - just don't embarrass your parents.
As adults, we make our own decisions - but those decisions affect our family, our friends, and our environment. Take responsibility for yourself.
4. You are better and stronger than you think you are.
Ah, our Pooh quote. We all have moments of self doubt. Just remember, everyone around you has those moments too. If you fall down, get back up and keep going. Life isn't about avoiding trials and tribulations - it's about how we handle them.
5. Be a problem solver.
Don't whine about things that need changing. Take charge, and make those changes happen.
I continue to be inspired by the UNC Commencement Address - and have taken the liberty of expanding on Dr. Lisa Carey's five points. Let's all work in 2010 to be the kind of America we want to be!
