Another photo op at First Security Bank in Searcy Arkansas. WWII years.

What neat photos we have found of old Searcy Arkansas.

Evidently the first one is of a Wave in uniform visiting in front of First Security Bank in order to perhaps solicit women to sign up for the Waves.

Wave photoLook at the Ford Motor Company sign behind her.  Who can remember when there was a car dealership downtown on the square.

Also note the window opened at the bank.  This must have to gain ventilation in a stuffy bank with no central air.

Next we have our famous Searcy lady, Corinne Hart, Anita's mom who lived to be 100 posing in the very same spot with a poster.

Question?  Who is that guy grinning like a Cheshire cat above the sign and is he real or part of the sign?

searcy arkFor those who might wonder where this is, it is on the East side of the court square.  First Security has just restored the bank to look a lot like it did at this time.

I'm truly fascinated by that individual in the background....................

Godmother,

I am pretty sure that the photo is Bill Clinton, pre-fame. Very little escapes my keen intuition.

Nutsy, I can see where you MIGHT see a slight resemblance....but the man is "Shorty" Martin who was the janitor at the bank.  I would think being the bank janitor would not be a full-time job so maybe he was janitor at other business up and down the street, as at John McElwee's Ford Motor Company.   I have other pictures of him, Barbara, if you are so fascinated.

The Ford dealership was  White County Motors. Their motto was "On the Square" which was had a double  meaning describing their location as well as their business ethics. When the dealership moved out on East Race street they changed the motto to: "No longer on the Square, but still on the level."

Nutsy, you are pretty smart but he looks pretty old to be Bill pre-fame.

Anita, I do want more pictures of this man who looks like he'd be so much fun!

Bob, thanks for supplying that info.  And they were the original W & W Ford???

Glad you put the White County Motor Company motto, Bob.  I'll have to correct it just a little:  from my 1957 phone book:  "Moved From the Square-But Still on the Level"....Telephone  l000, nite wrecker call l056.

For Barbara:  Trade with Duncan, the Used Car King.  "What Old PO DUNK Says it IS - It Is"   Phone 747.

Anita, that motto sounds much better than how I remembered it. And I had forgotten John McElwee Ford completely.

Barbara, since I didn't know what a "W & W Ford" was I did a search with Google. W & W is located where White County Motors moved to when they left the square. Their advertising includes this comment: "Third generation family owned and operated since 1944." So it's reasonable to assume that W & W Ford evolved from White County Motors.
