I've had a bit of writer's block lately.

Nothing really serious. I've been treating it with coffee and aspirin.

In the course of the aspirin and coffee kicking in, it occurred to me that maybe my writer's block was trying to tell me something.  Maybe I have nothing to say because, after all, I have nothing to say.

We have our mechanisms, don't we, for having nothing to say, now that we've decided that we need more nothing, lest we not have enough "content".  Back in the day, we had nothing to say, so our web sites had about five pages, with a bazillion pages of links to someone else with a five page web site.  Nobody had anything to say back then, either, but at least we had lots of links.

One of the ways we get blood from a stone is with the meme.  The formerly easy on the eyes but in the upshot four legged Laurie Mindnich got herself memed by Ed Rybczynski, who is a friend of ours (fuggedabout it).  Dude, smile, will you?

In a fit of pique, or in a pitch of fit, Laurie tried meming me, then thought better of it.  Actually she memed me and then protested on my behalf without even knowing I would have protested on my behalf, I just hadn't learned I should be protesting yet.

We have memes, we have carnivals, we have articles about 100 or 255 or 365 things you can write about.

We are accomplished content providers, multi-platform, cross-domain, sea to shining Sea 2.0.

I do enjoy having the little heads pop up, in the many hither and yon places where the little heads pop up.  It reminds me of when I was younger and I had friends.

I have my revenge on Laurie:  I have invited her to Facebook.  Maybe she'll end up being a friend of ours.

That will teach her.

When I can't figure out what to write, I pull up all of the stats for my website for the past six months and I look at the search terms I am being found by - then I look at the very bottom of the list and start writing using those words and phrases.  I figure I am being found with them - but not often enough - so I write and try to seek my rankings for the terms at the bottom of my list.

Maybe this will inspire your writers block to hit the road....

I am Sam.  Sam I am.  That Sam I am.  That Sam I am.  I do not like thay Sam I am.  Do you like Green eggs and ham?  I do not like them Sam I am.  I do not like green eggs and ham.  Would you eat them here or there?  Would you eat them anywhere?  I would not eat them here or there.....

I find Dr. Suess is always inspiring!  Funny thing is I know the book by heart.  When you have writer's block, consult with the Doctor... Dr. Suess...

Renee,  I will do that from now on.  I never argue with a lady with boxing gloves.  :)

John, good idea.  In fact there's a tool that does that for you that you may really like, hittail.com.  It's free.

Lately I've been having a lot of luck because my agents keep bringing listings in, so that's a vFlyer that can go up in a few places...

John when I find myself with writers block I just stick up more market reports. Google loves them.

John, I am certain that they are many times folks run out of intelligent things to say with some value or content, but even this posting of yours is funny and an interesting read, so you're fine!  What I don't like is seeing really silly things appear on here by agents that are in your same town that really have nothing to say, not even humor to share in an effort to rack up points, not that is irritating.  It is my sincerest desire that when I post something, it has some value even if it is just to provide humor.  So, your writer's block wasn't really writer's block, you still have what it takes!

Blog on man'!

John, having writers block is only ONE thing.  Thinking of five things that might be remotely compelling is a real challenge, especially for writers that offer great content like yours.  Just thought, between friends, that I'd spread the challenge to interesting people- but was stunned at how difficult it ended up being (mine was pretty weak).  Of COURSE I'll join the face book, but have to get a photo together- sniffing daisies doesn't seem professional...:)

When I have writers block, I go localism. It helps me research a new area and also gives me something to write about...
