ActiveRain Channels matter

By
Real Estate Agent with HER Realtors

ActiveRain's got Channels, Consumer Channels and Professional Channels  - ActiveRain Channels matter!

If this seems to basic to you look at the ActiveRain Professional Channel.  Listings, Market Reports, about schools...

Channels on ActiveRain

We did not have Channels at first.

ActiveRain Channels (new!)  <-------- IMPORTANT too!

Are you writing to peers?  Use one of the ActiveRain Professional Channels.

Talking about ActiveRain, Mortgage / Finance, Networking, Offline Marketing, Online Marketing, Sales Strategies /Tactics , Technology and Tools or Training to others in the business?  There's a channel for that!

Writing to consumers?  Use a Consumer Channel.

Talking to the general public about Home Buying, Home Improvement, Home Selling, Mortgage /  Finance, Moving, Real Estate Investing, Real Estate Market or Regional (Localism about the State,  County, City, Neighborhood, Street, House... ) there's a consumer channel for that.

Posting content to a Consumer Channel Home Buying

Where do the posts end up based on you using the Consumer  Channels?  Three Places!

1.  Channels on ActiveRain

Look at Channels on the top bar. See Search, Blogs, Channels, States, My Home.

Top Menu on ActiveRain

Click on Channels and then choose the Consumer Channel and the first Consumer Channel.

Pull down list

Another place to find Channels on ActiveRain?  Front page right side (What is shown on the top here.)

Look at the  Home Buying Channel

2. Your Outside Blog - Channels are categories

If you are using your Outside Blog to talk to consumers the topics are going to show up on your Outside blog as categories.

The topics in the channels are your categories on your outside blog

Look at your Outside blog now.  Channels and your Topics are categories...  It is the backbone of your Outside Blog and this is what the Search Engines use to find your blog content.

To the right  is an example of some categories on my Outside Blog.

Location, Location, Location is important as always on a real estate blog if you are trying to be hyperlocal.

3.  Search engines...

This is how Google Finds your content... and feeds it to the general public.

This is the first in  a three part series on ActiveRain Channels.

I'll sort out more about your choices when you are posting, Localism,  a listing, Groups, Categories, My Outside Blogs.

Are you in the real estate industry and not a member of ActiveRain?  JOIN

Not a Rainmaker but want to use your ActiveRain blog to start talking to Consumers?  First Month only $5.00.

Upgrading to a RainMaker account

Need help with how to get content up for consumers?  I can help you.   Rainmaker makes your content Public Visibity:, you can post publicly to consumer channels as a RainMaker.  Your content shows up on Localism and you can set up an Outside blog (in most but not all cases the Outside Blog would be to talk to consumers.)  Your blog, your choice.

Most importantly when you use the Consumer Channels on ActiveRain when you are talking to consumers your content shows up in search engines for consumers.

Thanks for the great info, Maureen.  I'm sure I haven't been getting the most out of "Channels," and I'm sure there are many others like me.  It's only with good information and explanations like yours that we can do better.  Look forward to the rest of the series.

Channels are important, and something I could use a little more fine tuning on.

Wow Thanks for explaining I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one unsure about the channels, I did know they were on your outside blog, I wonder if you have the same title does it then show # of comments?

You have Powell homes for sale (8) Home Inspection (11)

Thanks look forward to the next one.

David looks like you put in the title of your post as your topic

Looking at the bottom of the post on ActiveRain it says:

Originally posted at: Real Estate and Related Topics: I Love Getting Adjusted at Elite Chiropractic in Clayton NC

Looking at your Outside Blog   I love getting adjusted at Elite Chiropractic in Clayton NC

So that must be in the Categories on the side.  I can't find it.

I had noticed someone else using their blog post title as their tag,

Here's your sidebar on your Outside Blog lots of your content is posted to the ActiveRain Channel which is a Professional Channel, not a Consumer Channel.

David O'Doherty's Outside blog Categories used the ActiveRain Channel for most of it

You've used some Consumer Channels too but the top of your blog categories is all in the ActiveRain Channel.

Odd because I looked at one of my blogs yesterday and I had 4 or 5 post that were posted with ActiveRain as the category (since I posted them to the ActiveRain Channel which is professional not consumer...) but they were at the bottom of my sidebar.  I wonder if it puts the content you have more of at the top.

Jump in Micheal, RainMaker is great.

Thanks all for the comments.

The second post in the series is up ActiveRain Channels.  I found the original post where Channels were introduced. I am not sure if I'd ever read it... then there is Bob's post which I had read which is very technical.  Then Brad's Raindexing post that helped me 'straighten out and fly right' ....

Third in the series is up.

ActiveRain's ActiveRain Channel is ActiveRain's Junk Drawer

Is your picture there?  A Quick way to search your Outside Blog for content in the Junk Drawer?  Look at the sidebar,  Does it say ActiveRain for a category?  If you have Market Reports, Homes for sale, under ActiveRain, you've got some snarls.

ActiveRain Channel on your outside blog?

I've removed all the snarls on my Outside Blogs I think...

Thanks again for the detailed post. How would you classify a 'neighborhood tour' under channels? I have been posting it as advertising a listing, however I don't feel that is right - do you have a suggestion? Thank you.

If it is a real neighborhood tour I think it goes in the last channel, Localism.  That is hyperlocal content.  If it is really just listing with a tour attached it is a listing.

Thanks for the dozens if not hundreds of hours that you have spent improving us. You come through as an edgy interesting person. I am sure that my wife is OK with this observation.

I missed Steve's comment... Edgy?  Nah just too much caffeine.

I just wish people would stop posting their whole blog in the ActiveRain Channel
