As I get ready to step forward into 2010, I also need to reflect on 2009. I look to see what worked and didn't work to achieve my expectations of the year. There were a few items that didn't get accomplished and some major ones that I was not sure would be obtainable that did happen. So what was the difference in the ones that were achieved and the ones that slipped in the cracks?
The answer that I have come up with is VISION! The ones that were accomplished, I had a clear vision of what I wanted to achieve. I had taken the time to write it down, tell someone what I wanted to accomplish, and make a daily attempt to work closer to the finish line. The ones that slipped through the cracks were never built on a solid foundation. They were just a flash in the night were I thought "Oh that will be cool to do!" , yet I never had a plan or took time to really accomplish those goals.
In 2010, I plan to have a clear VISION of my goals and I plan to not only have career goals, but personal goals as well. I am starting with this blog as one of my goals. I will make an effort to blog on a weekly basis on the progress of all my goals. This will not only make me accountable to myself, but to anyone that may take the time to follow my goals and see how I am progressing.
The plan for achieving my goals will be based on the following principles:
1. Set goals that are achievable and that are action oriented.
2. Write goals down (which I will do in my blog-my new pen and paper).
3. Write goals in present tense. ("I will......")
4. Envision myself accomplishing the goals.
5. Baby Steps- plan baby steps to achieve the big picture.
6. Take action- don't procrastinate!
7. Find 3 people who will hold me accountable to my goals.
Stay tuned to my January 1, 2010 post where I will clearly define my goals, and start my journey in 2010. If you are reading this blog and would like to join me on achieving your goals, lets go at it together! Send me a note, start your own blog, and lets follow each other!
2010 is waiting for us!
