Is Real Estate on your Client's Bucket List? You Bet It Is

I was thinking about this topic last week when I was finishing up my goal sheet for 2010.  I personally A home is a hopeful drop in the buckethave two real estate purchases I am working toward that effect my immediate goals for 2010.  One is to purchase a single family residence in Lake Geneva within the next 3 years.  The second is to work toward purchasing my dream real estate property, a log cabin, within the next 10-15 years, close to the time that I plan to put my business up for sale.

Am I alone in creating real estate goals? Absolutely not.  Despite any current economical woes time marches on.  For any old dreams that may have died with the struggles of the economy new ones will arise.  It is a human desire to have a home.  I would call this desire an instinctual need that predates to humankind's first footsteps across the earth.  While shelter is a basic need, a home is what everyone desires.

  • A place where you can mark the kitchen wall with your children's height.
  • A place where you can retire with ease and comfort.
  • A place where you can put your first mark of adulthood after college pays off and you land that real job you've been working toward.
  • A place where friends and family can come and hang.
  • A place where you can lay our head after a busy workday.
  • A place where you can grow and watch things grow.

It's true that everyone wants this place called home.

So as you toil through your market this year remember that regardless of where some of your clients are at today....it will not be the same tomorrow and tomorrow can change in a day or a year.

Keep in touch and keep your marketing steady and valuable.  Keep giving and offering help. Keep in mind that the desire to have a home will never change.

Regardless of any cycle we are in, real estate will be on your client's bucket list so make sure you are top of mind to help your clients when they plan to fulfill their dreams.  It could be sooner than you think.

Never thought of it as on one's "bucket list" but actually you are so right.  Owning real estate is so wise many want to be owners.  And with real estate your options are endless.  Good blog.

This is a good reminder that people buy and sell homes in any kind of market. My guess is that you will reach your real estate goals sooner rather than later.

Your last line said it... be sure to stay "top of mind" with people, because you just never know when things in their life will line up correctly for them to want and need your services.

I think back to a seminar at NAR many years ago - the speaker told about a friend of her Mom's asking her "Are you still in real estate honey?" right after she talked about having listed her house.

You just don't want that to happen!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Funny, I was thinking about this last night after I put the last of the 27 boxes of Christmas decorations away.

I love my home, it is the right size even though there was always a time we could use an extra bedroom or bath for the many kids and adults that have visited or passed through on their way to getting back on their feet.

I never saw myself living in the same place for 15 years and each time I think I'm ready to move on to a smaller place with the concierge lifestyle I've dreamed of.....it seems we have another short term guest to accommodate.

There is still time to complete my bucket list and continue to help our clients with theirs.  I enjoy being a Realtor and experincing what our customers go through.

Thanks for your great thoughts!    Joy

Lottie- Well then you very much understand the value of real estate in your life and are using it well to fit your needs and wants.....goal setting.  Good for you and thanks for sharing that here.

Alexander- I use bucket list kind of as a metaphor...having a home I believe is something everyone wants to do while their living.  If we think of it in terms of goals many goals we set would be ready to mature before we pass away, some goals we set will mature while we are gone, creating a type of legacy if you will.  Your goal you mentioned is one of those.  For me, yes, I would like to own more than one home again while I am living.  Speaking to people and reading people's words I believe this is a common goal.  Has to be while we are living because you are right, we don't take those things with us when we're gone.

Vanessa- Exactly right and some will have renewed interest, even after they've been thru a foreclosure or a short sale.  Time, it's about time, will, desire, goals.

First off the "BUCKET LIST" is a great movie.  I honestly hadn't heard of a bucket list  until I watched it.  That being said I'm sure most people have that desire.  I'd like to get my hands on a beach house in the next 10 years.  I need to buy a home home first though.

Where Buying & Selling Works

Okay, first, the video is just cute. Secondly, someone will always be buying real estate in any market. We are trying to stay top of mind so whomever that somebody is, however few it may be, some or most will think of us. We have to keep moving forward because life will whether we like it or not.

BTW, I always loved this song.
