Atlantic Beach, NC offers a Not-So-Average Christmas Tree Dump Station
Atlantic Beach, North Carolina

If you live on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina, and either have your Christmas Tree sitting at the end of the driveway waiting for pickup or if you waited to take your tree down this weekend, plan on taking it to Fort Macon State Park for disposal.  Head East on Fort Macon Boulevard until you enter the Park.  Once inside Fort Macon State Park, you'll see the signs dAtlantic Beach, North Carolinairecting you to the dump station.  The dump station is really just a large pile of Christmas Trees (located right behind the BathHouse).  They will then use the trees to build up the sand dunes here on our beautiful little island.  As many of you know, the sand dunes are very important to our vegetation and in serving as protection from the tropical storms we get here on the Crystal Coast.

Fort Macon State Park is located in Atlantic Beach, but is just a few minute drive from Morehead City, Pine Knoll Shores, Emerald Isle and Salter Path.  Without our beaches, we probably wouldn't be here as tourism is what drives our economy.  Helping protect our area... What better way to dispose of your Christmas Tree. Fort Macon State Park in Atlantic Beach, NC offers this service every year.

Using discarded Christmas trees to build up the dunes and hinder erosion is a wonderful idea. We used to do it all the time when I lived on Long Island.

I hope everyone in the Pine Knoll Shores area brings their trees to the "Not-So-Average Christmas Tree Dump Station"!

So what did the Indians use to build up the sand dunes before we brought Xmas over?  (Just kidding).

That is a great idea.  Up here we have the local boy scouts take the trees for a donation.

Hi Amy:

That is a great idea!

Towns need to be creative and think outside the box.

Amy:  I think that is such a great idea that discarded Christmas trees can be used to save your beloved sand dunes.  So glad the folks doing it are imaginative enough to come up with such an idea.  Take care... have a Great New Year... .
