I'm Not Superstitious.........

But if there is any chance Black Eyed Peas bring good luck, they are welcome at my table on New Year's Day!

Yesterday I received a package in the mail......it was from Eleanor Thorne in Raleigh NC.  I went to REBarCamp RDU in November and had the pleasure of meeting Eleanor and lots of other friends from ActiveRain.  It was so much fun and was a huge success thanks to Eleanor's leadership, along with many others who helped her plan the event.

Okay, so back to the package......it was a bag of Black Eyed Peas and a family Hoppin' John recipe.  It came just in time so that I could soak the Black Eyed Peas overnight and today I went to the store and got the other ingredients I needed.  If the good luck thing works we are going to have lots of it because it made up a huge batch!  I also cooked my favorite Peppercorn Pork Loin from Publix and Asparagus wrapped in Proscuitto.

It was quite yummy if I do say so myself!  We were too full for dessert after pigging out on these goodies, but later we are going to have Klondike Bars. :o)

Thank You Eleanor!

Hoppin' John

This looked real pretty after I garnished it with green scallions.

Asparagus Wrapped in Proscuitto

I got this recipe from FoodNetwork.com.....I love Asparagus and Proscuitto!

Pork Loin

Mmmmm......Pork Loin!

Well Ann, your dinner looks marvelous. We had a nice brunch today after running a 10K charity fundraiser, but it's now 5:15 PM here now, and I've just realized I'm starving -- gotta run and put something together! Happy New Year.

PS--I see your Christmas avatar has been packed away. It was cute.

Hi Ann-

Happy New Year!  Claude (what a great traditionalist), is almost right.  You have to add the hog jowl to make it official; though the pork loin does sound like a tasty (and easier to obtain), substitute!

Looking at the pictures of the Black Eyed Peas makes me hungry.  I never heard they may bring good luck.  I do love Black Eyed Peas so I'll have to eat more in Twenty Ten.  Have a happy New Year.

I read where pork also brings good luck -- so I think you are set Ann!  Happy New Year to you! It sounds like a wonderful dinner, I think the proscuitto & asparagus sounds really good - something I haven't tried together before!

I've heard of the luck of the black eyed peas at New Years before.  Too bad I didn't have any on hand.

Beautiful photos, Ann. We had black eyed peas, ham, butter beans, cornbread, and iced tea today.  My husband prepared the entire meal and I was quite impressed.

I think all lentils are supposed to be good luck, but only if you have them on New Year's Day.

Happy New Year!
