Way to go Joe Pa and Penn State!  We just got back from the Capital One bowl in Orlando.  Took the kids to see Penn State play for the first time.  They had a blast.  I am so impressed by Joe Paterno.  He's like the little engine that could.  He was out there running around, talking to officials, players, & other coaches.  Last year he had hip replacement surgery and is in at least his early 80's.

Besides his amazing attitude in football, he's a wonderful human being.  Even if you are an Iowa or Notre Dame fan, you still have to like him, maybe not his football team, but him.  He offers perseverance, a low key approach without the ego and donates huge amounts of money back to Penn State University.  It's such a refreshing "coaching" style in today's all about me society.  He's not asking what's in it for him.

Along the way in life we meet a number of folks who make things happen and have a great attitude throughout the way.  They are sure of themselves and not comparing the amount of money in their wallets (to paraphrase from Capital one!)  Penn State made it through in pouring rain, controlling the clock and outplaying LSU.  (Don't get me wrong, LSU played a good game and has some explosive offense!)

Final Score: Penn State 19, LSU 17!  It was another heck of a game for a heck of a coach, Joe Paterno.  Hope you have a heck of a game in 2010!

What's in your wallet?

I went to Oklahoma so needless to say, I consider myself a huge NCAA football fan.  I too have a deep respect for Mr. Paterno.  Years ago, I heard how much he has donated "back" to Penn State.  I forget the number, but it was staggering (seems like I remember 30 million?????)!!!  I also heard that he and his wife have lived in the same small house near campus for as long as they have been there.  No huge mansion or shrine to himself.  I wonder how many of us could do this if we had access to his income????

Lewis,

Joe really REALLY is amazing.  What a true role model!

I'm actually a Georgia Tech fan, but have to support the spouse!  Go Jackets!  Beat Iowa tonight!
