Mapleton Oregon is located on the Siuslaw River known for it's Beauty and Trophy Salmon and Steelhead Fishing. In Mapleton's hayday it was a logging town, but with the mills gone it is fast becoming a Retirement Area. Located just 14 miles from Florence and the Pacific Ocean many people are choosing this area for it's close proximity to it's larger neighbor to the west, Florence has a population of roughly 10,000 and was voted the #1 retirement spot in the US in 2004. So because Florence is geared towards retirees and all the services that accompany a town with that type of demographics like an excellent hospital and many other services for seniors it is natural for people to want to live close to that. Yet Mapleton because it is inland 14 or 15 miles has warmer summer days, less wind and a perfect place to have a great garden.

The Three Rivers Casino is currently completing their New, Larger Casino and Hotel which is bringing a lot of new job opportunities to the area, slated to open in late December 07 and it is just east of Florence on Hwy 126 on the road to Mapleton.

Eugene and Springfield Oregon are only about 50 miles east of Mapleton for big city shopping if you can't find what you want in Florence. With all that is happening in the area and with so many people from the Eugene area wanting second homes closer to the beach I have to say Mapleton should be considered a good investment today. Because it hasn't really recovered from the logging days, prices are low compared with Coastal towns like Florence. With it's perfect climate, close proximity to good jobs at the new casino and low priced homes Mapleton is changing quickly for the better.
