I have a passion for sunsets, especially over the ocean. So living on the west coast gives me ample opportunity to enjoy the many gorgeous sunsets during the year. The most spectacular seem to be in the winter, which was also true when we had our home on Cape Cod Bay in Massachusetts. There, we could see the sun set over the bay to the west, but also enjoy the sunrise, if we were up early enough.
Watching the sun set over the ocean is a popular activity here - there are many vantage points for folks to enjoy the majesty of the golden sun dipping below the horizon and the many colors that are part of that process. It's fascinating to watch as the colors change second by second. And when there are clouds the sky tends to glow more vibrantly than when the sky is clear. And of course many dream of seeing the green flash just as the sun drops below the horizon.
Best Places to Sunset Watch in Carlsbad and Nearby
There is something almost magical about watching the sun set. You can actually set it moving as it gets close to disappearing, and the changes in the light are always different.
We noticed this particular sunset from our house as we could see the glow on the hillside to the east and the changes in the sky. We were NOT prepared for the vibrant sky we saw when looking out the front door, and hopped in the car to drive to the end of our street to see the real deal over the Batiquitos Lagoon. I took a whole series of photos, but these, in my opinion, were the best.
