A Watched Pot Never Boils... Or Does It?

By

grandma cooking You have heard this expression before...

"a watched pot never boils."

This is an old expression, one that has been around for as long as I can remember. I think I remember my Mother using this expression, I know my Grandmother did.

A watched pot never boils equates to - something you are waiting for will not happen while you are concentrating on it. I have been thinking about this expression and how it pertains to real estate. This is what I can tell you.

  • Many of you have been watching and waiting for prices to drop - they have!

  • Many of you have been watching and waiting for interest rates to come down - they have!

  • Many of you have been watching and waiting for a "specific" home to drop the price (again)

only to find.....someone already beat you to the prize!

Seriously, the pot market has been getting pretty hot lately.
Well priced homes are selling. Even those properties that have been on the market for quite some time are starting to disappear.
steam coming from ears
If you keep waiting and watching for the pot to boil market to get better, you may be the one that gets steamed!

If you have your eye on a specific property, you might want to do something about it before it is too late and somebody else claims your prize.

A watched pot never boils... or does it?!

Lots of good opportunities out there and unfortunately many who are content to remain watching will in fact miss out, especially if they're in the first time home buyer range.

Good analogy; it's time to take advantage of a great market that is in front of us.

Great post, right to a big point! I wish I could scream this an all would hear and take action. I have too many buyers waiting. The question now is, What are you waiting for?

Great analogy Judy and well written post.  Those that wait too long are going to be sorry they missed their opportunity!  I flagged this post for a feature...it deserves it!

No, what the saying means is that the more you concentrate on something the longer it SEEMS to take.

Robert - You tell them!

Colleen - Hopefully, the consumer will understand that this is not a matter of "crying wolf" about buying opportunities.

Tom - It is time, and the smart buyers are taking advantage of those buys right now.

Rob - There is a pent up demand here and I think it will be a busy first quarter.

Sharon - Thank you. I appreciate the flag.

Leslie - I see your point. Thanks.

So right Judy! Homes are starting to move here too and agents are busy. Much different from '09 when the market didn't start moving until April!

Judy, my phrase is get out of your head, stop thinking, and act. Our thoughts can be our own worst enemy at times telling us how life works. Quit watching the pot and light some more fire under it instead.

Barb - We did not really have much activity here until late spring in '09. I think the first quarter of '10 through spring will be very active.

Gary - You got that right. The market has allowed the consumer to over-think and it might take some nudging to get them through to the next step. I think they will be happy once they have made the commitment.

Judy ~ Reminds me of another saying... "piss or get off the pot."  Perhaps that is what some buyers need to do NOW, considering that market conditions are ripe for buying!
