Well it's here, Monday January 4, 2010 dawned cold but clear here in my part of New York State. The first week of the year and what will you do? On Saturday I asked if you had set yourself up for failure by committing to resolutions that are too ambitious? When we try to reach for the stars we sometimes give up because they seem too far away. We can however commit to making small changes that will add up to big things.
Today I think we need to talk about a something you may be putting off until you have more time, volunteering. Yes I know you have been meaning to come out to support the school or join the fire department but you can't imagine finding time for it. Well it's your lucky day because I am going to let you in on a secret, you can make a difference every day no matter how busy you are. Join me in performing one Random Act of Kindness each day this year. That's right put it right up there on your to do list or enter it in as an appointment on your scheduler. Something as simple and quick buying the coffee for the person behind you in line or holding the door open for someone at the bank. You might even allow that mom with the cranky two year old to go ahead of you in line rather than looking at her with disdain bringing that noisy brat into your world, believe me she is not any happier than you are and she has to go home with the child. Try RAK and you will find yourself happier. It won't change the world but it will make someone else's world a better place and you will feel better for having done it.
Here is the beautiful Greater Hudson Valley of New York Sunrise from this morning.
I hope it brings you a smile.
