Winter time can often bring unforeseen risks for Homeowners. One of these unforeseen risks can be a home that has frozen pipes or worse broken water pipes! Podmaska Insurance Agency would like to help  keep your home safe this winter season and prevent this from happening.

Homeowners can prevent frozen pipes by following these helpful tips:

  • Wrap standard insulation or heating tape around pipes wherever possible.
  • The inside temperature of your home should be at least 65 degrees or warmer.
  • When the weather is especially cold keep cabinet/closet doors open to allow warm air to circulate around the pipes. This is especially helpful in rooms such as the bathroom and kitchen.
  • If a homeowner is expected to be away from their home for several days they should keep water dripping through one or two faucets,as moving water prevents freezing. However water should be turned completely off if the homeowner is leaving their home for an extended period of time.
  • If frozen pipes do occur, shut off the water as quickly as possible and call a plumber.

Excellent reblog. Some of my homeowners want to keep their thermostat on a very low temperature. I always email them reminders to set it around 65 to avoid freezing of the pipes & for the showing comfort of the house.
