I was amazed with how much tourism and money the Liberty Bowl brings into the Memphis economy so far. It gives so much to the city. With people who stay in hotels and eat out at the restaurants. I was shocked at the lines of people waiting to catch the special shuttles to take them from the suburbs to the Liberty Bowl Stadium.
I used to take the Liberty Bowl for granted. I think lots of Memphians did. We used to think the whole situation with the city and the Liberty Bowl was funny. But the amount of money that this event brings into the city each year is phenomenal. I was shocked when the Univeristy of Memphis, that plays football at the Liberty Bowl made the city in beer sales at the stadium.
So we thank the people from the University of Arkansas and East Carolina University for their visit. To their football teams thank you for a cliffhanger ... way to go guys! What a close game.
