VIRUS WARNING!!!

By
Real Estate Agent with iNet Realty

THERE IS A NEW VIRUS IN TOWN   AND THIS ONE IS POTENT.  This virus is a mass email worm that has been traced to W32/NUWAR@MM.   (PLEASE DON'T ACCESS THIS!)

IF YOU RECEIVE AN ECARD AND IT SAYS "You've Recieved an Ecard from a Family Member", DELETE IT IMMEDIATELY!!!   Please note:  Some people have received variations such as " You've Received an ECard from a Classmate".  Delete these too!

It looks like this virus has morphed into so many forms that vigilance is required.  Do not open any ecard from any company (BlueMountain, ecard, AmericanGreetings, etc...) unless it has someone's name on it.  Make sure you know who it is...  For that matter, don't open any email that looks suspicious to you.  Of course, you may still get emails from AR members and it will tell you so that you have an email or ecard from so and so via Activerain!

THIS IS A POTENT VIRUS THAT WILL TAKE OVER YOUR COMPUTER.  The techies tell me that EVERY email address will receive at least one email like this.  BE vigilant and protect your computer.

P.S. If you find this post helpful, please rate it below!!

I've ben getting a slew of them that say "a friend" or a "family member" or "loved one".  Fortunately I figured out that since they don't have a specific name there was some type of issue.

Thank you for the warning.  I do have an anti-virus program on my system that will detect virus' in e-mails.  If it finds one, it will automatically delete the e-mail and notify me of the deletion.  I've been lucky that I haven't had a virus in two years.  I hope my program keeps on working!

Leon, Deborah, Gita, Vicki, Jo-Anne, Dan, Kim - Thank You for your comments. I really appreciate your comments.  I am glad to hear that this post was helpful to you.  I hope this warning reaches more people.  The only way we can stop people from creating more havoc is to show that their intentions will produce no results.

Thanks for the tip, I actually just got an email that said "a mate has sent you an e-card" I didn't think much about it and just deleted it-I'm married so I wasn't looking for a mate so it didn't interest me-glad I didn't open it!  Thanks again!

They also take variations of things like "You've received a greeting card from a Family member!" There's an article on snopes about this - http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/postcard.asp

I have gotten so many of these that it's not even funny anymore.  Then when I did get a card from a friend I emailed him to double check to see if the card was from him.  When he told me it was then I opened it.  Sad state of affairs that we have to be that cautious.

Carolyn,

What virus protection program are you using?  Is it one of those that you have to pay yearly so they will update your program?  Thanks for the comment!

Penny and Angie - Thanks for the comments! Yes, it is so sad that we cannot trust people anymore.  Maybe it is because people have more time.  More time for mischief and mayhem.  The fact that some people take delight in making other people's lives miserable or more difficult is a symptom of the perplexing and worrying state of affairs ....

We don't need to go to Iran or Afghanistan to meet a terrorist.  They proliferate in the cyberworld..!!!
