Go ahead a hum the theme of White Christmas if you like. But Christmas is over and I am ready to move on and get ready for what CNN Money and the Wall Street Journal predicts could come around as soon as March 2010. Apple's introduction of a Tablet mobile device, this being more like a combination of Netbook, iTouch and a book reader all in one device .
There have been many rumors about this and the name that is being tossed around is iSlate. Whatever it is going to be called, if it is actually coming to market, it would be destined to be a very cool and useful substitute device for the larger and heavier notebooks.
The Apple Tablet would come with WiFi and probably require a data plan ( like the iPhone) maybe even come withMiFi( this is really cool)and it is said to be coming to neighborhoods near you soon. But Apple remains silent on this and I agree with them. What I love about this company is that it always provides so much more than it promises.
In the on-line news article was a You Tube presentation link demonstrating what it might be like and it is not very long and I thought you might enjoy watching this. I watched it several times already since I had been a long time Tablet PC user and gave it up for the Mac.
The Tablet PC was very good but the platform was certainly not a Mac. The special screen on my Tablet did allow for using it successfully in the daylight and I appreciated that , the biggest issue was a too small of a hard drive. If you stored a lot of photos and videos, it used up the resources very quickly. But I would certainly consider using a device like what these respected giants in the media say is coming. No one knows for sure of course it a guy a dream.
So I am really excited that they are right, I might have the best of both worlds very soon. The Apple platform and a tablet running it. Check it out !
Bulletin: This news item just released. Apple announced this morning January 18th, 2010 that it is having an " By Invitation Only" event this January 27th in San Francisco to introduce it's latest product. No mention on what it is but speculation is that it is the introduction of the Tablet. Click here for the link to the article.
You love those new toys William...and like you said the tablet didn't hold a lot. I need the work center I have.... I love my two screens and plenty of work space :)
William, you know what? I love apple don't get me wrong, I just don't like it's so closed and its high prices, but the product is great. that will be an awesome product and I know that android will make a lot of products as tablets, computers based on its android OS we will see the next years :)
Woo Ho, I really like having the tools that we need to do our work. But things just get outdated very quickly. I have enjoyed learning the MAC system and everyone should use what they think works best to serve their clients. But I can see the real benefit in something smaller and mobile that works like the iphone but has a bigger screen. I know that techology is really advancing and what they used in the video was too cool and I loved how it functioned. I think consumers will like it as well. Imagine what a property listing would look like and how the virtual tours would play.
I am sure that is so. Apple just leads the way, it at least seems that way. There needs to be alternatives to anything and I am sure there will be. The PC makers compete and it keeps the prices lower. Always appreciate you dropping by Ray. And Happy New year.
Hi Neil, No one is actually guessing what the price would be, I have heard numbers but I just hope they actually are making it and then I suppose the price will be what it is.
Hi Stephen,I hope so as well. I do think it will be a game changer. I remember attending a meeting when the Newton ( Apples first entry of a portable active screen tablet ) was first introduced and so I know that Apple already has the technology. I would hope with all the talk that they actually introduce it and it becomes a real hit!
Hello William - I need a new computer but am waiting for Apple to release it's tablet. It will certainly decrease the time it takes me to complete my inspections.
Hi Andy, I was also thinking about a new notebook myself but I decieded I wanted to wait and see if they really do introduce what others seem so convinced of. I know that Apple does not disappoint and the actual Tablet , if they do introduce one, will be awesome!
iTablet sounds cool. iSlate , not so much. I had never heard of Slate.com but will check it out.
Wonderful to see you and I hope the New Year is unfolding in wonderful ways for you. They finished the Drywall yesterday and Painting is scheduled for the next two days and then it is time to unwrap things, clean and start assembling the house again. That to me will be so welcome but time is tough to budget right now with so many Byers in the market wanting to see property.
I suspect by next week, I will be back to normal. I mean the house, I was never normal to start with, LOL.
2 more days Debi, They start the painting today and then, a massve clean -up and the house can start being put back together. Getting my office back will be awesome. Having a place to sit equally nice, LOL.
Apple lost me as a customer way back around 1983 when I went looking to replace my Apple Lisa which was about five years old at that point. Not sure they'll ever get me back unless they buy up the world and that's all that's left.
I think it would be great! Now that I'm a Mac convert, I'm really appreciating their products. I have always coveted a tablet, that you can write on and it converts to text.
I understand how that can happen. I expect that is why they are an alternative to a PC and have only an 8 percent of market share in the process. But for me, they remain the alternative of choice.
Hello Georgina, Once you have converted, the world of computing looks different and so much rosier. They are so innovative as a company and I love the personal attention I get when in their stores. These emloyees are so well trained and so amazingly talented. With a PC you are on your own. With Apple, you are family. If this first year of having a MAC is any indicator, I hope to always be an Apple product user and advocate.
Hi Jennifer, The idea is quite appealing, no doubt and if it works as well as the iphone, I can see that it could be quite a wonderful and useful device for real estate. Price is always relevant to usefulness I suppose. To me the company offer a choice to consumers. if you want reliability and no 3rd party excuses why systems break down or don't perform, this is the company.
Hi William - these gadgets are coming out faster than I can keep up with them. I just got a wifi netbook and I feel like it's already old hat! I like it though because it's lightweight and easy to carry around.
William - This is a great article, on an upcoming product that is sure to please many real estate professionals! Especially with it's capacity to collect signatures on contracts. I also agree that technology is outdating so fast. The future will be in the interactivy of screens to perform far more applications and tasks.
Hi Susan, I certainly can relate with statement. Often these new devices ( which are brought to market to SELL ) are mostly time wasters. They entertain more than than the provide values functionality. I will say this about my iPhone. It keeps me informed of important e-mails, text messages and voice mail when I am in the field. The new tablet if there is to be one will give instant internet access in a light portable tool and I belive it will serve many of many of real estate needs ,again, while in the field. Having phone calls converted to e-mail for a record would also be very useful. Next service on my list of wants.
Hi Myrl, I could not have said that better. If you think about it, what is it actually doing? Changing the words to pictures. Faster recognition and pleasing visuals. Seems that is what sells and likely will encourage more into this new technology. It is what drove the iPhone. Same services as other phones but the visuals are amazing.
Great video and it just shows what is on the horizon. I like the look of the new tablet MUCH better than the old style tablet. I used an HP1100TC years ago and it worked great but the performance was limiting. Knowing Apple's track record and their ability to provide amazing performance and battery life from a small package I think they will introduce a product that is BEYOND our expectations.
Good Morning Sam, I would tend to agree 100% with your view. I seem to write things that over the course of the last couple years that something like what I have written ends up as headline in the newspaper. "The Year of the Tablet" ,today's headline. The article covers the tablets already out there on the market with the exception of what may revolutionize the tablet market, the introduction of the tablet this post is about. Maybe it is time I become a journalist,LOL
I'm anxious to see how this product pans out with consummers once they get their hands on it. Other than my newer desktop, I haven't bought a new laptop, since my Sony Vaio, 4 years ago. I have loved the Vaio, but would welcome something thinner, lighter, and more compact.
We are moving so quickly through this technology world and the devices that deliver it, that as incredible as some of these are today, I think the future is so much bigger than just a device. Computing has long ago taken on the "Better than the Jones" type of mind set. We went through the culture of bigger is better. Bigger computer screens and bigger tv's . Now we seen to be going the other direction that small and compact gets used more often ( even if you cann't read the print). It is mostly about money and commerce, to encourage more people spending. And as long as they ( people ) are willing, they will fill the fantasies for more services and more power to do more to keep people engaged. Beyond that, I am not sure ( at least from a business point of view) that bigger or smaller make make difference. I suppose as things get easier to compute and accessibility and speed become more and more in demand, it is certain that the devices will change to accommodate.
Sounds awesome, William! I hadn't heard of it prior to this, and am eager with anticipation. I guess I'm not the only one amazed at how quickly new technology seems to be developed and imagined!
I love my Lenovo Tablet EXCEPT it has Vista as an operating system, but being able to use the screen has been wonderful. Clients get a kick out of it because they get to wirte on my screen with the pen..
Hi Deena, the cool part of the anticipated Apple is that out of the box it will work. Remember the Newton? Apple first developed the technology and when you add in the new functionality, it should be awesome if it actually comes to be. I have a client I told about this and she said she can't wait to give up her other ?? operating system and she is also waiting to see the new ?/tablet?. If the tablet does not pan out, she is all set with a new MAC notebook. Apple's meager 8% market share of the computers today used and re-purchased today could go up and up on the next 3-5 years. And in my view they earned it with their trained personnel and just amazing and talented people to help you with whatever your wants and needs are. If I sound a little bit pro Apple, sorry but it only took 15 years to learn the hard way.
Hi Sheldon, It is now the quiet before the storm. The storm ( hurricane of cash- credit is OK )being the anticpated flow of money shifting to the Mac ( Hopefully New Tablet), LOL.
Hi Judi, I have had to tablet PC's, 3 and 2.5 years respectively. Yes, they are cool. I am counting on Apple to bring me back to the tablet but I would never change operating systems to have it, unless Apple has it. Once you have used a MAC, there is no going back. Since Apple developed the original technology with the Newton ( years and years ago and ahead of it's time) it should be a celebration of the imagination. Then again, they say . not nothing coming out any time soon. Technology is speeding quickly and we will have to wait and see.
Hi Ray, I have been working on restoring my home after it had to get all new pipes through walls and ceilings , the workman are done and now it is putting things back together. That and I have been working with a lot of buyers lately and tired at the same time. The big TV got reconnected today and the furniture was moved back in to part of house and I am actually taking the evening off and plan to just watch it, (or sleep), LOL
I think what we are looking at is a prototype using technology to case the video demo in a frame that might be the shape of the Tablet.
What will actually come about if in fact they launch a tablet would be anyone's best guess but I think the creators of the video were doing just that. I visualized of course a choice of white, which if you think about , Apple has become famous for in the iPod.
Stay tuned as soon as I know, I will be sure to write an update.
January 27th is the date of the By Invitation Only Event in San Francisco. I ,like most expect it to revolutionary in its approach. I understand HP registered the word Slate Tablet so calling it the iSlate will not likely be the actual name of it but speculation is that they will introduce the Tablet.
Only 5 more days to the announcement...tick tock tick tock...the clock is counting down. I have a feeling we could also see an iPod Touch with a camera.
Hi Debra, I suspect that in less than a week, we will all hear the news and watch the stock prices of Apple , jump once again. Then again, if that is not what is announced, there will a huge shift back to others that will be coming out using a different platform. I am betting they will announce it and that it will begin yet another surge to Apple getting more and more market share.
Good Morning Sam, If Apple announces what I would hope they do, it will be a great day for Mac users and more importantly, PC users that switch. As a Mac user, I could certainly understand people wanting something that would be state of the art and even maybe more reliable. Certainly it would be fun to use. And the consumer experience is all important. If it has functionality and enjoyable to use, if it then is an affordable alternative ( that being relative to the users), it will be a huge hit. And I would almost bet on it.
Hi Michael..too bad this tablet did not come out for Christmas, then my wife could have bought one for me instead of Cloths..I'd go naked to have one, how about you...in my home of course. Thanks for the News.
Hi Fred, I don't think that would be necessary, LOL. Too much information Fred, LMAO. I think this tablet, if it actually comes out as expected will be affordable enough and you won't have to trade in those new Christmas gifts, :-)
Hi Debra, As we await word on Apple's announcement, I think the real estate profession would be benefited by the introduction. We will see. I fully expect to use one if it becomes available.
Hi Sharon, Beyond the devices themselves, most days of late, I feel overwhelmed . I have so many irons in the fire and it is a bit overwhelming sometimes. This is the greater issue than the device themselves. The needs for us as REALTORS, keeping our sites up to date, keeping up with social media, optimizing the consumer experience, all of it takes an inordinate amount of time and has to be handled daily. Writing posts and keeping the content relevant. We have certainly expanded the role of real estate professional. And this is just the beginning of where we are heading.
But indeed grandparents would just be overwhlemed watching what we do,:-)
Hi William, I now take a measured approach to tech acquisition. I used to be an innovator and early adopter, but now I'm a use what I've got until I must have something much better kind of guy. Take care.
Hi Frank, That makes sense. Besides no matter what we end with, 2 days later it seems to be obsolete and yet things that work and are reliable are the best use of time and resources. Thanks for dropping over.
Hi Debra, I am very excited as this will be a tool that REALTORS can really use. I think it will replace a lot of notebooks out there. Apple's platform is so amazing. I hope that MLS's and Standard Forms providers will recognize the the number of real estate professionals that prefer the platform and begin to make our systems work with it.
Now that was cool. The word I typed below where is says " What does the graphic say? " was apple.
Hey Debra, I got an e-mail report today of some of the requested features that the Tablet will have. Now at least we know it is going to be a Tablet. Think of this idea. Slipping the iPhone into the tablet as the network card ( using the SIMS card ?? )guessing here. The price range was stated as between $700 and $1200. The real issue is whether ATT will allow access using present iPhone account or if one has to have another account, which to me would kill it. People who hadn't thought this through would be ticked and not buy it, or Buy it and cancel the phone. Got to be a way to make this seamless. Keeping fingers crossed because I want one and already paying a bloody fortune for 2 iPhones. Between access and texting, it is a big expense. :-)
I will keep my fingers crossed for you! I am in the process of switching to Verizon and probably going with a Droid. AT&T doesn't work in my area so no iphone for me!
Hi Debra, I will write a post after the announcement and share it with everyone. At least if it as cool as I hope ( if the screen isn't too small) it will be fun to share and others will copy it anyway. Likely Verizon will come up with something comparable.
I am also hoping that I can tune in this morning. Hopefully Business News has it live. I expect their stock to reactive very favorably to this. All the hesitation and secrecy has enlivened the interest in what I think will be revolutionary.
Sam, One person in New York suggested that if you already have iPhone service, the new devise allows for a connection to the phone by new software (or by slipping the phone into the device?? ). That would make this a real hit with iPhone users and even increase the number of them.
It is of course fun to speculate and in a couple hours we will have the answer.
Me too. I already am in line. You can go to the Apple site and sign up for notification when ready. I wish it had more than 64 Gigs. I have so many photos but that is OK, I will be selective and just put the best ones on. Keeping the bigger mass of some 30,000 photos on my desk top. But I am saving about a grand in not having to buy the bigger notebook, and this has all the cool touch features I like.
William - The idea of having the iPhone feed the internet connection to the iPad would be great for those who have a stable service from AT&T. Knox County, Ohio doesn't have AT&T service that is reliable and it isn't 3G either. I am going to use the Mifi 2200 for mine because that is how I am providing wifi to my iPhone for VOIP phone service currently.
