Well as 2009 pulled out of the station enroute to the new decade, a feeling of either contentment, alliance or just that feeling of looking for better seemed to be bright just like the holiday lights when I spoke to people. Some of these meetings were with people who the economy has not been very friendly to over the past three plus years, yet, they gave me a boost, kind of like getting on over that hill that you can see from a distance. Almost in unison but in different conversations they voiced that "that was then and this is now" and "I am going to make it".
Many seemed to reflect on times they had never imagined, never in their wildest dreams or nightmares but they all made it through, some with scars but those scars seem now to be stars. When I attended the Massachusetts Association of Realtors Leadership Academy one of the classroom experiences was a reading assignment. We were all given different chapters which reflected on different "leaders", some were industry leaders, some political and others with personal leadership roles. There were many names we recognized, some from history class and others from the headlines, had we touched many of them, no, but during the course of class they touched us. We read their stories - some really great leaders - ICONS in Industry and although we only think of them as winners, they all had their challenges, some had more than their share it seemed but the good did triumph!
What was their secret? Some may say it was the way they were brought up which I would like to believe was true but...many had such varied childhoods, differences in the parental input, differences in the educational opportunities. Others would say "oh they were just in the right place at the right time!", well I do think that does play a role in all of our destinys, you wonder why did I walk that way, go to the restaurant, change schools, hang out with that group, why, maybe this is the reason but to me they all had to reach way down deep inside themself and hold onto their own character, their own beliefs and go for the inner strength we are all gifted with...but just like any gift one has to open it and hopefully be thankful for the gift received.
Yes we are all going to make it in 2010, we are indeed stronger and smarter. Our priorities have changed, our focus is direct, congratulations to you for deciding this just isn't that bad, that you are strong and you have what it takes to MAKE IT IN 2010!
