Greetings Eco-All Stars,

I have recently joined the community and this group - this is my first post, so I hope it is a useful topic for discussion.  I recently received a notice in the mail from my local power company (San Diego Gas & Electric) with my bill.  It was a "helping you go green to save green" note.

They listed a number of energy efficient products such as "A/C, house fans, friedge, pool pump with motor, insulation, and water heater" as items that could qualify to save you a credit on your power bill.

They gave the following website for more info: http://www.sdge.com/residential/rebates_services.shtml

This is the first I've heard of this and wanted to know:

1. Does anyone have any first-hand experience with how feasible it is to get credits from your power company for purchasing such products?

2. Anyone in San Diego familiar with this?  Are other areas making similar offers or are we in one of the more progressive areas because of our power problems (can you say rolling blackouts =)?

In addition....

3. I am planning on sending out a "Green homes" email to my local clientele/sphere. Along with this above URL, energystar.gov and irecusa.org, I was wondering if anyone else had some good links as resources that I could send my homeowner friends/clients.

Thank you so much!!

The suggested installations are going to be of the greatest influence if you are making new installations or upgrades.  But, they will be good for the energy use of your home, both in terms of just thinking green or cutting your utility expenses.

When the former owners of our house wanted to sell it, they need to do some furnace changes.  In the process, they upgraded to a high efficiency furnace and central air conditioning which had not been in use before.  Before the central AC, they had operated window and wall units.  I am not conversant on all the details, but my husband assures me that this was a good deal for us.  They also pumped alot of insulation into the 'attic' of the house; fulfilling our theory that most loss of either heat or cooling goes out through the top, particularly since we live in a low wind area.

Credits from your utility company are a generous encouragement for people to consider using energy efficient appliances.  Again, this action takes some dedication because at first blush these appliances seem more expensive.  I would recommend that you get all information possible from the utility company and take advantage of any consulting that they offer.
