Starting the New Year with a "Marathon"- 26.2 Laps at the Apex YMCA

By
Real Estate Agent with Raleigh Cary Realty

This year the Kraft Family YMCA in the Apex/ Holly Springs area of North Carolina held what is hoped to be an annual New Year's Day "Resolution Run". Kraft Family YMCA

Just as the wonderful staff at the YMCA had arranged last year, members had a month to sign up and get in condition to either run or walk on the indoor track on New Year's Day.  Eight times around the track is a mile, and 26.2 times is equal to a 5k.  They goal was to finish in less than 45 minutes.

So on a cold grey January 1, 2010, runner's assembled inside, were given their cool new t-shirts, a number pinned to them, and at 9:45am off they went.

This year there were quite a few "walkers" and older people out there starting the new year right!

Of course there were several great runners who "won", but everyone who participated was a winner.

This is the second year in a row that my husband has ran his "marathon", and he may inspire me to try it next year.  (no promises though!)

If you'd like to live near the YMCA, there are currently 77 homes for sale within a 2 miles radius.  Homes range in price from $148,000 to $699,000!

To see these homes, click here or go to my website at www.NCHomesFinder.com.  If you'd like to see them in person of course, give me a call and I'll be happy to help you find your next home.

Hi Linda, That sounds like a good way to start the New Year.  Do most people finish in the alloted time?

Linda ----  this sounds a little more civil than our big splash in the Atlantic ocean on New Year's Day -- No, I do not participate in that but thousands do. Brrrrrr.

Mary- all of the runners finished, I think some of the slower walkers didn't do all the laps, but at least they were in there trying.

Liz-  If there's one thing we are here in Apex/ Cary, it's civilized! Working out in a climate controlled gym is the best way to get in shape.
