Spirit in the Sky?

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Second Self Virtual Assistance

While driving home from dropping my son off at school this morning, I saw this in the sky:

Clouds over Moreno Valley this morning

Closer view:

Clouds over Moreno Valley this morning

What the heck is it?  The sun was to the left.  This anomaly in the clouds started out as dark amber on the left, graduated to light gold, then was white and finally grey on the right.  Of course, I just HAD to pull into the car dealership, get out and shoot a photo to share.

**These photos were taken by my very own camera and are my property.  However, if you like what you see and want to use them for yourself, please let me know.  I might give my permission, I might not.  I gotta hear the reason first. ;-)**

Heather...They called sundogs.   Caused by the sun bouncing off the ice crystals in the sky.  The reflection is like a prism.  Up here in the Nort...we see these quite often.  Colder weather I guess.  Usually we see some form of moisture within 24 to 36 hours.  Last night with the moon out You could see the enite ring around the moon.  This is the same type of occurence as the sundog.

Thanks, Randy, William and Nick.  I had never heard the term "sun dogs" before.  It's really cool looking.  I wish the photos were able to do it justice.  I guess I'll have to dig out my umbrella.

Thanks for stopping by, Darren.

LOL, Jeff!  Maybe Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin decided to make an Independence Day 2?  :)

I hadn't seen anything like it before either, Jim and Maria.  It certainly caught my eye, though.

Heather - definitely a sun dog The best one I have ever seen was about 1/3 of a circle around the sun like a giant rainbow

I have seen and also have taken pictures of the same thing. I never knew what they were called, just thought it was a small rainbow. Thanks for sharing, I now know something new. : )
