Places to fish if you live in or near Tomball, Texas

By

I've mentioned before that I like to fish. Well, people new to the area may not know where to go so here's my suggestions. By the way, I highly suggest you get a fishing license because the rangers are out and looking for those of you that don't have one! All of these locations are within an hour drive of Tomball.

If you don't have a boat then  you need to find somewhere to go where you can fish from the bank and these are the places I've scouted out for you already. These of course are not the only places to fish but it's a couple to get you started.

1. (FREE) Burroughs park-

(great for reunions)

http://www.hcp4.net/parks/burroughs/

(they have stocked Rainbow Trout)

2920 to Kuykendahl, north on Kuykendahl , When you come to a Y in the road, stay to the right, left on Huffsmith by Valero gas station, follow road around to park, pond is in back. Bass is catch and release only.

2. (didn't cost me anything to fish) Stubblefield Lake-

http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/texas/recreation/sam_houston/stubblefield.shtml

In the Sam Houston National Forest area (has camping areas and a public boat launch)

Take 249 north to 149. Stay on 149 north till you get to 1375. Take 1375 east towards New Waverly to the park entrance on your left. Go down to the bridge. Park and fish.

3. (cost  me $5 for the day) Cagle recreation area  on Lake Conroe-

http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/texas/recreation/sam_houston/cagle.shtml

has a public boat ramp and camping

Take 149 north to 1375, pass up Stubblefield lake area and continue on to Cagle recreation area on your right. Stop at the brown ranger station and get a day pass.

4. Spring Creek Park- Free fishing, has camping sites

http://www.hcp4.net/Parks/springcreek/

From four corners (2920 and 249) Take 249 north to light at Tomball college (is that Brown road?), go left and follow around to the park.

I will be checking out more areas to tell you about later, so stay tuned till next time and if you happen to check out any of these places and see me there, then be sure to say hi.
