The Mt. Hood Scenic Byway is Oregon's newest Scenic Byway. Beginning in Troutdale the scenic byway heads East toward the Barlow Road- the last leg of the Oregon Trail. Enjoy this route around Mt. Hood with breathtaking views. Watch the landscape change from pastoral valleys and temperate rain forest to the semi-arid uplands. This route has been traveled for thousands of years by local Native Americans, and more recently by pioneers nearing the end of the Oregon Trail in the 1800s. There are accessible trails, signs, historical markers, monuments along the route. Visit Timberline Lodge, built in the 1930's through the Works Progress Administration (WPA) and Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). The lodge sits at the 6,000 foot level of Mt. Hood. It is a masterpiece of craftsmanship. Continue on the Byway down the mountain via Hwy 35 through Parkdale and into the city of Hood River. Travel back to Troutdale via I 84 following the Columbia River through the gorge for even more beautiful scenery.  Additional info and a map of the Mt. Hood Scenic Byway can be found at:   http://www.traveloregon.com/Explore-Oregon/Mt-Hood-Columbia-River-Gorge/Trips-We-Love.aspx
