Jay’s Back Porch © 2007 Jay Merton

It’s a very comfortable 66ºF, although a bit humid this fine Saint Paul morning on my back porch. I served for a time while I was in the Army at Fort Gordon near Augusta, GA, and the weather here this past weekend reminded me of the weather I suffered through then: mid to upper 90s and tropical! It rained last night—much needed rain, and somehow most fitting.

It’s been some time since I’ve been the sole proprietor of this blog—and it feels a bit awkward. On the upside, I do have my mug, and I am enjoying my hot organically & shade-grown, fair-trade, Guatemalan-Blend coffee. That, at least, won’t change!

I’m moving on, and have much to do. I have hours of data-entry to do in my family history database—while I’ve been addicted to blogging, my data-entry as a consequence, has fallen woefully behind—so that is first on my agenda. That will require my full attention for some time, and I’ll have to deny my addiction (I’ll have to design a robo-comment so I can at least let my Gentle Readers know I’ve not forgotten them).

Next up on my agenda is to build a new “Other Blog,” ‘cause I can only hold off this %$#@*!! delightful addiction so long! Be patient with me—I have many graphics to draw for the new blog & it will take a while.

So Gentle Readers—be good—I’ll be checking in from time to time!

Jay

Jay, I look forward to your new "other blog" and seeing those sketches. Good luck on the family history data entering. I am trying to do a journal for my grandson beginnning the day he was born May 10 2006 and that is time consuming enough. I worked on a family tree for my dad's sidde of the family until I could not go back an more that was fun and very interesting for my siblings to have and now pass down to their offspring. God Bless!

Today in Lovettsville will be 90 degrees.  That is a full 8 degrees lower than Bethesda, my home until last Spring.  The heat is not nearly as oppresive in the country as in the city.  I plan to do some indoor plant repotting today and I don't believe the heat will be a problem at all.  We have rain promised.  We need it.  We often have too much rain.  Or, so folks complain.  But, if we go two days without a hard or steady rain, they say we are in a dry spell.

========= WEATHER REPORT FOR LOVETTSVILLE, VIRGINIA =========================

Today.

Intervals of clouds and sunshine with a couple of showers and a thunderstorm
High: 90F /   Washington, DC Weather

Tonight

Washington, DC Weather A thunderstorm around this evening; otherwise, patchy clouds
Low: 68F /

Jay, and a Good Morning to you, too, Sir!  I'm hoping that as time goes on you'll share a little with your gentle readers here about researching family history, and building that family history database!

I stayed away from the 'Rain today and chipped away at the data entry (pretty fair progress). I just stopped in to say thanks for the comments. Perhaps tomorrow over coffee, I'll make more personal replies--as is my usual custom.

Thank goodness you're not quitting.  I've been holding my breath mentally awaiting your answer.  The rain was indeed a relief, Jay.  A huge cleansing of St. Paul and sometimes of the heart as well.  I'd love to know what kind of data entry you are doing on your family history.  I've dabbled, but not gotten serious since the '70's.  I found researching my family history was also an addiction!  Plus, there was no internet to help at that time.  I kept ending at courthouses that were burned and couldn't afford to travel to the cemeteries!
