The ActiveRain Nature Station: Birch Aquarium slide show

By
Real Estate Agent with HomeSmart Realty West CalBRE #01458572

My owner is a Realtor with Century 21 Award in San Diego.I finally sorted through the 187 pictures from my Birch Aquarium visit last Sunday to get a manageable 43-picture slide show — fish, coral, anemones, jellyfish, starfish, seahorses....

I also just read in the paper that the Birch Aquarium had a two-hour power outage yesterday but no wildlife was lost.

However, one of the electrical workers was injured, although not seriously.

Here are the 43 pictures that I'll be keeping. Hope you enjoy them.

Very beautiful photos, Jim.  I love going to the aquarium.  Used to go to the one at Scripps and the Monterey Bay Aquariium as an adult, and a few others when I was a kid. Your photos make me want to go again.

Between all the photos of Zooey the Cool Cat and your other photos, I cannot believe how well you photograph life and scenery of all kinds!  That was amazing...and I loved the opening, too.  (BTW, I wish all we had were frosted flaked, too funny.  Wish you were closer to share some laughs with!)

Thanks for sharing the pics.  The Birch Aquarium looks fantastic.  Next time I am in that part of the world I'm going to check it out for real.  Maybe it will be for pleasure and not work this time.

Hey, Jack - Thanks, and thanks for stopping by. Good to see you regularly again.

Hey, Heather - We used to have a three aquariums, 55, 75, and 125 gallons, but we sold the last one a few years ago when we moved.

Hey, Carra - Snow?

Hey, Jim - Thanks. It's been a long time since I took pictures in a dark environment, like the Aquarium is, and through water with reflections on glass, so I was happy that I got 43 nice pictures.

Hey, Diane - What's funny about our whales? Or are you talking about the yawning fish?

Hey, Suzanne - Part of getting good pictures comes from past experience but part also comes from having a pretty good camera.

Hey, Dana - The Birch Aquarium doesn't even rank in my Top 10. If you get a chance, see the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi, the New Orleans Aquarium, the Florida Aquarium in Tampa, the New England Aquarium in Boston, Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, Monterey Aquarium in Monterey, California (my #1), and the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California.

Good stuff. I have a friend that has a huge tank that just sits in their garage collecting dust. One of these days I'll talk them into selling it to me.

Jim, these are simply great photos.  That must have been very difficult to crop the number of photos down to this slideshow.  You must be a patient person.  I imagine you had to wait on many of the fish to get the shots you wanted.  I recognize many of the smaller fish as my brother had a large salt water aquarium.  I think the cuttlefish(I believe that is what is called) was my favorite of the group.
