Information on state forest land in Gladwin, Michigan.  Gladwin County is home to 85,000 acres of State Forest Land.  There are numerous recreational opportunities to partake in on this beautiful land from hunting and camping, to hiking and wildlife viewing.  Of course for those of you like me who like to experience the great outdoors from behind the wheel or handlebars of a gas powered recreational vehicle, there is also ORV trails and snowmobile trails on the state forest land.  You can contact me anytime for a map of roads that are open to ORV use in Gladwin County.  The Meredith area has a trail head parking lot that connects several counties via miles of groomed, marked trails running through state forest land.

In northwest Gladwin County there is a 5,000 acre state forest land area that is called the Gladwin Field Trial Area (GFTA).  The GFTA is dedicated to hosting bird dog field trials.  It is actually one of the premier locations for this activity in the nation and brings participants from throughout the United States.

The state forest land in Gladwin is also home to House and Trout Lake state forest campgrounds.  For info on these campgrounds visit www.michigan.gov/dnr.

In northeast Gladwin County there is an 11,000 acre area of state forest land called the Lame Duck Foot Access Area.  This area is open to the public for walk in traffic only!  The focal point of this access area is wildlife habitat management for both game and non-game species.  Information about this area of state forest land can be obtained by calling the Gladwin Management Unit of the DNR at 989-426-9205, ext 7604.
