We have some really busy streets that run thorough our city.
Route 59 which is at the western edge of town and travels north and south is a major, commercial road just touching The Fox Valley Mall.
Ogden Avenue is another commercial street, meandering its way south-west and north-east. Every car dealership is either on Ogden or adjacent to it. Take your pick. There are all here. Originally all the diagonal streets were built over the old Indian paths. And, Route 34 (Ogden) starts deep in the heart of Chicago, and just continues out to the Great River.
And, bisecting the town we have 75th street; a divided 8 lane slow-way, jammed with traffic almost all day long. Our office is north of 75th street by almost a mile. And, when I give directions, I always warn newcomers to the traffic jams that are here.
So, imagine my delight to discover that the city and the state will be improving this intersection! They're going to add additional right turn lanes and develop an underground path so that the river walkers will not be injured trying to cross the street. Of course, it's not going to happen right way...after all, this is your government at work. But, by 2010, it should be completed.
The southwest corner has a very traditional looking church with its white spire. However, its message made me stop and chuckle.
Wonder when they'll consider building bridges or underground tunnels at other busy intersections?
Hi Eileen! Thanks for sharing the pic! It made me smile too! Have a great day!
