Selling a Home in Gloucester County?  You Should Probably Think Twice!

Selling a home in Gloucester County?  You should probably think twice!

Think twice about what to do with all that "stuff."  Glocuester County Realtor

Humans, by nature, collect "stuff", lots of "stuff!"  Although we love all of our "stuff", home buyers do not.

The instant a buyer walks into your home for the first time they are looking for a few key things.  Many home buyers feel that they will know their next home by the vibe they feel when they walk in the door.  Most say, "I just know!"  What these buyers are referring to is that warm comfortable sensation you feel when you are "home."  One of the best ways to create that warm, fuzzy, at home feel is to declutter.

Below are a few simple tips to declutter your home, and help your home show great!

Get Organized.

Go through each room in your house including drawers, closets, and cabinets (Yes, buyers will be looking here too!)  The items in these spaces should be put into three categories.

  • Items Used Every Day:  These consist of items you use everyday such as furniture, clothing, kitchen items, toys for children etc.  These items should remain in the house while it is for sale with in reason.  You should be sure to limit your clothing in drawers and closets to seasonal clothing only, in the kitchen only keep what you absolutely need, and have your children choose a few favorite toys to keep in the toy box.

  • Items Used, But Not Every Day:  These items include non-seasonal clothing, kitchen items used only on occasion, toys the children rarely use etc.  For these items it is wise to rent a unit at a local storage company.  By boxing these items and placing them in storage you are not only organizing, but are also preparing them for the upcoming move.

  • Items Rarely Used:  If items are rarely used, why are you keeping them?  Choose to donate them to a charity organization before the move, rather then putting them on the curb after the move.  Many organizations will pick up donations at your doorstep!

By taking the time to re-organize, you are creating a home that is open, and spacious.  One that contains plenty of cabinet and closet space.  These are the qualities all home buyers are looking for.

Reminds me of George Carlin: "Our homes are just places where we store stuff while we go to work to earn money so we can buy more stuff." (I cleaned it up a little -- LOL)
