I haven't blogged too much in recent weeks--winding down from the holidays & having my laptop in the repair shop for 3 weeks hampered my ability to blog easily. Since I've had my super-duper (for me) laptop, 2 years, it has been to the repair shop twice. The first time, just 8 months after purchase, due to a power surge following lightning. Last month, the motherboard had to be replaced. The repairman told me that he is seeing a lot of my type of computer (HP-Vista System) brought in b/c of motherboard & other problems. Before we bought this laptop, I noticed what laptops other associates in my office had & that they'd paid less than $1,000 for their computers; my husband wanted something with more features & capabilities. And it made sense, because the family would be able to use it from time to time too. Unfortunately, after two costly repairs later in just 2 years plus the initial cost of the laptop, I'd say we could've purchased almost 3 other computers for the same amount of money we've invested thus far. I considered tossing the laptop after this last repair & buying a lesser computer. Glad I didn't, now that it's back & working fine. But if it has to be repaired again...

Welcome back. I have always had luck with Gateway but my four kids like mac laptops. They are more pricey!

There are many full featured laptops that sell for under $500. If it dies again, I suggest replacing it.

Sounds like a replacement is in order if anything else happens -- our 2 cents.
