I Am on Overload and It's Not Because of the Real Estate Market

This very cold and blustery Sunday, I am on overload.  And for once, it's not because of the real estate market.  My first time buyers and  short sale sellers are taking a breather today, so I get one too.  That's a welcome change for a Northern Virginia real estate agent.

So what's got me on overload?

I spent the whole day shopping.

I know that some of you out there live for this activity.  Not me.  Every store my husband James and I frequented today fell into the category of a mega store.  Now James is a shopper.  He loves to browse the aisles.  Not me.  I like to know what I need, get in, get it and go.  Browsing the olympic sized aisles of Lowe's and Super Target are not my idea of fun.  What you need is never where you think it should be and you seem to get amnesia for what you came in for to begin with.

Case in point, James and I were in Lowe's last night and forgot the toilet tank flappers we needed.  That's the reason for our return trip today.

After Lowe's and Super Target, we hit Best Buy.  This store simply put me on sensory overload.  Even shopping warrior James felt like melting into a puddle in a corner of the store.  There's just so much noise.  So much stuff.  And everything feels like you simply MUST have it.  I nearly got suckered into a sandwich grill.  I assure you, I do not need one.  Thankfully, I made out of there with the bare essentials.  Again, the essentials were not so easy to find.

How can shopping make being on the phone with Bank of America and Wells Fargo regarding my short sale contracts seem like a walk in the park?  At least I know that the hold music of Bank of America's short sale call center won't put me into sensory overload.  And Wells Fargo short sale time lines make infinitely more sense than layout of Best Buy.

Thank God I'm home, relaxing in front of the fireplace with my laptop to be my only distraction.

Essie:  Glad you enjoyed it.  I had more fun writing about the shopping than doing it.

I understand. I used to love shopping. Now that my knees are caput, I get overloaded easy, especially with my 2 kids along (3yrs and 4 yrs old).

You were quite the trooper to go to 3 big box stores in one day!

Maybe some people feel the same way about real estate--easily overwhelmed.

Chris Ann,

Shopping was once a fun pasttime when malls were somewhat new. Now, I get what I need and go home. :)

Hi Chris Ann, I loved reading this post because I am the same way. I love great deals but do not have racks of clothes in my closet. I can't stand when waiting in line is longerthan the time it took me to get what I needed. Best Buy always puts me into technology overload. The stereos and big screen tv's are on and that is enough to put me into a tailspin, lol.

Amy:  I know that many do feel overwhelmed by real estate.  That's what we're here for.  If I had a guide through those stores yesterday, would have saved me a bunch of time and aggravation.

Ginerva:  I don't go near them at Christmas.  Too many years in retail to know how awful they can get.

Steve:  I remember hanging out at malls, and being thrilled.  No more.  Our local mall is probably 50% vacant now anyway.

Richard:  We're just grumpy old farts I suppose.  At least we're in good company.

Jackie:  It's insane how much is going on in that store.  The best are the employees.  I asked one of them where I could find a headset for my home, cordless phone.  They took me to the aisle where the cellphone headsets were and explained why they wouldn't work.  Did they have anything that worked.  Nah.  The sales guy didn't think so. And right on cue, there's James with the box he found clear across the store with exactly what we were looking for.
