What is going on here??? Most Florida homes have heat pumps for Winter heating! This morning I woke up to a chilling 64 degrees inside! The thermostat was set for 67 degrees and it was NOT pumping any warm air!!!

I told Ron that we would have to call the repair person to have the heat pump checked BUT he informed me that it is working just fine. Since the outside temperature was 29 degrees (I can hardly believe that temperature myself!!!) that the heat pump would not pump heat. He informed me that it had to get into the mid-30's outside before the heat pump would come on and start heating the home again!!!

Well, it is now 36 degrees outside and the inside temperature is 65 because the heat pump decided to turn itself on about a half hour ago!!!!

I had NO IDEA that it worked like that! So what happens if a mini Ice Age comes and it is cold like that on a regular basis???? Start burning the furniture to keep warm?????

There should be an emergency heating coil in the system for the realllllly cold days, perhaps in FL they dont install that piece of the system???

It's been unusually cold where I live too Barbara Jo.  I set my heater at 65.  I hate paying the bill, I think they drastically over charge.
