Can YOU See What I See?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Rice Prprty Mgmnt & Rlty, LLC, South Holland, IL 481.010183

Have you stopped to consider a view contrary to yours that may have angered you?  Just HOW can one THINK like that, you may have murmured inwardly....  Man is full of opinions, thoughts and ideas that are being openly expressed now more than ever!!  Name a media outlet, and you'll find an abundance of talk!

Freedom of speech does not mean that what spills out of the mouth is to be accepted freely!

Wisdom warns us to be watchful of what's heard and place a guard over what's entering into the heart.... for out of it flows the issues of life!

Anger can lead to stress, which can shorten life.  This tends to happen to the opinionated, for there is less room for acceptance of another's view.

We are not obligated to agree, but let's attempt seeing from another view for the purpose of living longer!

Think about it.... the person on  <--the 3rd floor cannot see this!

What sense does it make to argue about what YOU are seeing with a person perched on a lower level?  Either go to their level or take them to yours!  Today a client was angered because i did not take his listing.  His scope was different from mine.  It meant we could not see eye to eye.  I did consider the angle he was peering from, but failed to get him to see the ledge his investment had landed on.  His vision was impaired causing him to be stuck.  We parted company..... He did not see what i saw.... but perhaps he will, later on.... after or if he takes the elevator up!  Me?  I cannot come down!

Yup I sure did - it really gives a good feel for seeing the different levels people may be on - look just a little harder - whether it's up, down or sideways.  Solutions come from this perspective!

Good for you Diane. The truth as you see it is what you have to honor. We always need to keep an open mind, but that does not mean we need to lose our mind. Thank you for the view.

After we learn to listen to others effectively, then we can jump come to our own conclusions based on a combination of everything presented. I was looking hard at the picture to see if someone was waving out the window...I loved your post, very well done Diane!

Diane - Its so much easier to just understand our point of view and not worry about how others interpret it. :-)  On a serious note, it makes a HUGE difference when we try to view a situation from another point of view. Especially if its something that has upset you or struck a nerve.

John, yes, it does make a HUGE difference... and since we are in the people business we should wait, listen, and SEE, before running away with our OWN understanding.  Thanks for chipping in!

Diane - great job, as usual.

I can't count the times I have truly thought that someone and I were on the same page but as it turned out we were not. Our perspectives are so different and often largely based on experiences.  Thanks for the reminder to clarify our position and try to see their side too, but then have the courage to part ways if those two views difer to the point that it makes us ineffective.

Love to read your posts!

Diane, you are of course right...I like to think of myself as open minded.  I do having strong opinions, but allow others the same luxury...that doesn't mean I agree.  I get not stooping to a level of behavior, but rather adjusting your view to a level of understanding...am I wrong?

The reason we scored a C- on our listing goals last year was because we turned down almost 25% of them Diane! Your wisdom will help you discern who to do business with and your name (reputation) is always more important than ONE deal....

Jeff laughed that we could start another company on what we turned down - but we would not even refer these to competition lol.

great post

God Bless you

Sincerely,

Grace

Irene:  He is so STUCK until he will continue to gripe.... some folks you need to leave right there!

Kathy:  Understanding is refreshing isn't it?  You bless me every time girl!  Thank you!

Nick:  The thing is this:  SEE where the are, and mark where they are in their understanding but don't go there with them.... IF it's a level you don't fit comfortably in... how's that?

Grace:  And the thing of it is... we used to TAKE JUST ANYTHING... but now, we CHOOSE... less headaches and more happiness.... we have learned our lessons!!!  Thanks for the blessings Grace!

Diane I had a listing presentation today. Cut a long story short,I tried to get him to do a pre-home inspection and invest in the services of a home stager-He wouldn't do it. And he found out about a listing that sold in like thirteen days for like $60k more than what I told him to list his house for. But this house was like completely re-done-brand new countertops, stainless steel appliances,painted-It looked like a brand new house. Anyway I will see if he lists his house at the price I told him we should list it for because if not,BYE-BYE. I don't take overpriced listings-Not this real estate professional.

By the way I don't think I have said Happy New Year to you yet-HAPPY NEW YEAR. 2010 is going to be our best year ever-CLAIM IT. Have a great weekend. Great post.

Lanre:  Happy NEW Year to YOU also.... some will SEE what YOU SEE later on..... AFTER time has passed and THEIR VIEWS are not materializing..... When this happens you've got yourself a sale.... that is, IF they decide to come around.

Diane, This can easily apply to LIFE as well as real estate.  Some people refuse to have an open mind or discuss different opinions because they must be RIGHT.  I feel it gives them a feeling of control.  I think it'f fine to agree to disagree but what I can't tolerate is when someone won't even SPEAK about it---it's their way or the highway.  I take the highway :)

Carole:  I can "feel" the passion in your comment!  It's so true that folks will not relinquish control over some of their so called... RIGHT perceptions!!  UGH... when i see this, i quickly move out of their way less i become a target of their venom!!  Well said Carole!
