Competition or Cooperation, What do you Choose?

handshake

I enjoy the adrenalin rush of competition and the knowledge that a competitive spirit is at the heart of what makes America so great.

At the same time, the events and conversations of the past few days have made me consider the value of cooperation, even with those considered to be competition.

Consider the fact that even though we may be in the same general business as our "competition" we all have our specialties, and our distinct capacity to connect with specific individuals. In that we are in the business together, we can inspire, support, and educate each other. If we all become stronger through the experience of cooperation, we all look better and more professional to our respective client bases.

Yes, we may "compete" for the same listing or customer, but if we continue to show our integrity and helpfulness, we will continue to stand out, and have the business we need; with the clients we make the proper connections.

Doesn't seem to me that there is much to lose by cooperating with those in our business, and there does seem to be a lot to gain, if only more friends.

And, who can't use a few more friends.

Coopetition is the way to go.  I've used this coopetition concept for years, but I've started to see it (and the actual word) used more and more.  Nice blog post!

Great post.  Treat everyone with professionalism and hopefully all the agents will catch on and return the favor.  We have enough to battle against without having to struggle with other agents.

Great play on the words Jason and the concept. It works, Thanks!

Hi Sajy, you are so correct. We are all fighting the same battle today, against tough odds, so let's all pull together a bit more, and work our way out of this mess.

Frank, I compete with many agents at times for a listing or a buyer.  We still meet at times for coffee and talk shop.  We need both sides of this!

Good thought Bill, perhaps 2 sides of the same coin . . .
