111 Comments on Leading The Unhurried Life ~ You Might Want To Try It!!
I tried the unhurrried life this past year when I took off for nearly 6 months to rest and try something different. Had a great time and really did not want to come back but one has to make a living (unless you are independantly wealthy).
Hhhmmm.... If I slow down, WHO is going to get all this "stuff" done???? The alarm goes off between 5:30 & 6:00 and I hit the floor running! The shoes come off and the covers turn down around 11pm! But I must say...... I have SOME FUN each and every day! I just need someone to pay the bills, clean the house, cook, grocery shop, etc. Then I could have even MORE FUN daily!
I consider myself to be a Type B personality but also a control freak. So I handle real estate my way which makes me successful and I love it. I also take whole days off to spend with my family, I travel as much as possible and enjoy the combination of life and work.
Please move those cows off the road so I can get to my next appointment!
It is my intention to enjoy life a bit more in 2010 than I did in 2009--that was one hectic year!
Ahhh, the quest for balance in your life. Trying to be many things to many people getting stressful, very stressful. I am trying to not hurry so much and take my time with personal things that I use to rush through so I get help some one else. Just those few extra seconds allow me to be more clear headed and organized. Thanks for the post and reminder to...slow down!
Thanks for this timely reminder, Gary! We only have the "now" (the fragility of life is brought home to us again, with the tragedy in Haiti), so why are we dashing through it, not really focused?
Thank you. Sometimes the greatest gift is to give someone permission to slow down and B-R-E-A-T-H-E. I get as spun up as anyone else in this biz, but have been trying to be conscious about taking a bit more time and "relaxing into it." It all still gets done on time, and I'm a happier Barb!
Haiti is definitely the reminder for us all. What a sad tragedy! We need to slow down and focus on what is the most important - family, hopefully, around us....
Gary,
You are so right! all this stuff we do, seems to be endless and sometimes worrisome. My life is onlly enhanced by my close friends and family....PLUS my business friends and families. It's a fine balance and I'm not quite there yet.
Great points! Thanks!
A lot of this technology stuff is over hyped. People feel guilty if they are not using the latest technology and don't spend enough time face to face with people.
I make an effort to slow down often, but it takes constant self-reminders. My family comes first, though, so I often postpone things that don't have to be done immediately. That's not always a good thing, but my kiddos are still young, so I want to enjoy them as much as possible.
Yes - Life in the slow lane -- at least once in awhile -- is good for the soul, great for health - family and friendships, as well as clients. thanks for the reminder - I sometimes forget to pay attention to me and slow time for me.
Great post. This is something I am really trying to work on. My end vision of what I am working toward is what drives me so hard. I need to learn to enjoy every day though and not just do everything for the future.
I'm with Missy- if I can find a way to pay someone else to get things off my place, that's what I'll do. There are just not enough hours in a day to do EVERYTHING and still have time to stop and smell the roses. (better than cow dung!)
Thank you all for the continued comments on living an unhurried life. This topic definitely struck a chord I suppose (or you liked the cows LOL), but life is too short to be rushing around ALL THE TIME. I will toss my handheld computing / phone device some day into the lake and move to Montana and live on a ranch I swear. Lots of insight with the comments.
As soon as I have time, I'll slow down! I want to, I really do....
Gary
At the end of the day, dancing because you want to or dancing because you have to makes all the difference in the world.

Gary - as usual, you brought up a topic that holds a great deal of meaning for so many of us. Through some of the recent changes we've experienced in this business I've had the chance to slow down and experience more of "life" - and what do you know - it's been really enjoyable. I love being busy with my business, but have also been able to pursue many other recreational activities making my life more complete. I guess this economic change was the catalyst I needed to understand that there's more to life than being busy with work.
Gary, I simply LOVE the cow pix and the thought of this post. Stop. Listen. Learn. Stopping is the complicated part.
Gary,
Truer words never spoken! I can bashfully attest to being a 'hurried agent'.
Dashing here and there in an effort to please (and make that cash, build that business).
Well today?
I'm down with a nasty bug. Rather more flat -out and outside of the odd trip back to kitchen for tea and Kleenex I'm spending the 'work day' in bed.
A recent series of stressy-events have got my attention too, as though my body is saying
"Girl, you better start taking it easier". So thanks for the reminder Gary.
Loving those cows today.
Thanks,
Sabrina in Vancouver
