I bought my Little Giant Ladder over 10 years ago and it brings joy to my life every time I use it.  After thinking about it, this ladder has a lot of qualities that I admire.  Some day I hope to be as good as my ladder.

  • It's solid as a rock.  Even when it's extended to it's limits, it's very steady and allows me to reach things that I never thought possible.
  • It looks deceptively simple but can be used for a variety of tasks.
  • Tough as nails.  After 10 years of stress and abuse, it hasn't broken down.
  • It creates raving fans.  It is so awesome that people can't stop talking about it.
  • It travels well.  It fits into most people's cars.
  • It costs a little more than a generic ladder, but you have less chance of getting hurt.
  • I trust it with my wife and kids.

Try staying steady at  the top step of an ordinary step ladder.  With my pole pruner, I'm cutting branches that are around 20 feet up.

If I put the ladder in a more vertical position, I can get to the top of two stories.

It condenses down to less than six feet tall.  It's easy to lend to others.

I use this as an example that some things are really as good "As seen on TV".   Click on that link and you'll see some amazing video demonstrations.  The ladder is every bit as good as they say it is.

I'm thinking of giving these out as closing gifts.  Maybe I'll but a sticker on there with something like,"I'll be there when you are ready to make your next step up" or maybe "Take your next step up with the solid support of your REALTOR"

Tim I too own the little giant. TLW just had to have one so I bought it for her for our anniversary(Iknow) a few years ago. It's too heavy for her and it has only been used once. It looks great though:) Maybe I should have opted for the diamond ring instead.

Tim:

Very clever analogy--I like it.  You're very creative in linking this ladder to attributes that clients would want in a professional (you).

Great idea for a closing gift--the first one is catchier--how about add your name?

Your humor shines through.  Thanks!

Tim...I love the creative use of linking the ladder to YOU! I think you are just as good as that trusty ladder of yours. Very cool post!

Hey...that was pretty catchy!  (I'm afraid of heights...don't know how you get up there and look up and prune...geez)

Hi Tim,

The LG is the best! Please don't take this the wrong way but the ladder shown on the garage is extended too far away from the structure and is a serious hazard waiting to happen.

Ah, if only I bought that little giant years ago. I wonder if it's still selling.

Tim - I need to get one of those for sure!  Great analogy to traits you would like/and probably closely resemble to be.

Tim, I need one of those. Some great graphics to show off the ladder.

Neat post, Tim. Good analogy. It looks like the type of ladder a number of inspectors I have used have - have never bought one but boy they sure look handy.

Bryant, Wow, you got away with giving TLW a ladder on your anniversary.  You really have a special woman there.  It is kind of heavy.  They have a new and improved version with little wheels at the bottom so you can drag it around.

Erol,  You are correct.  At that angle it is very dangerous.  I just wanted to open it up all the way and give people a sense of how long it can get.  My garage just wasn't tall enough.  That's why you don't see me at the top of the ladder.

Just remember the ladder should exceed at least 3' over the roof edge, the last 3 rungs are not steps.  :-)

Tim,

I never thought of that for a closing gift! My husband has that ladder and he raves about it all the time. Thanks for the idea.

Tim... why don't you just but a truck load and sell them out of your garage then?  ;o)  I have read great reviews in here, I guess I'll buy one for myself, my dad, and my brother-in-law. It is Christmas in July..

Ok Tim, now I have to go find one of those ladders for my husband! Great analogies as well, and a great idea you have for using them for closing gifts. I know that is one thing people don't buy until it's needed.

This is too funny.

I got a call from a guy at the Little Giant Ladder company.  He came across my post here and gave me a call.  He says that there are agents who are giving ladders out at closing and they are getting great feedback.

He quoted be an incredible price for a single ladder shipped directly to me.  He says they also work on creating special decals or labels that you can have placed on the ladder.

Shipping is a big part of the price.  If you order over 12 at one time, the price goes down even more, about $30/ladder savings.

I'm going to see if I can find other agents around here who might want to make a joint purchase in order to save on shipping.

The guy's name who I talked to is Ted Hartman at 800-453-1192 or ted@ladders.com

Jeff,  That might be a great promotion. "Christmas in July"

Geez, I wish I got one for our anniversary, oh wait it is in September like September 15th. I am sure Monika has a notify me on this post. Hint Hint... LOL

Speaking from an inspector's perspective, I would not give my client something that will have them climb a roof more often. Just my personal opinion.
