It seems to be a simple question... There are obvious answers...
- To bring in business
- To share knowledge
- To vent
I'm sure that you have reasons... I have mine.
The most popular answer I'm sure will be "to bring in business"... but is this really the most efficient way? I know that almost all of the deals I am working on have come about because of blogging and social media marketing, but maybe if I spent the time I use in social media and blogging to mow grass and shovel snow I could buy TV time. So... that isn't really it. It brings me business, but I might be able to bring in more utilizing other methods.
Another one on the list is sharing knowledge. I share as much as I know. In fact, sharing actually cements the knowledge I have AND expands my knowledge base. Writing about the topics I write about (real estate, technology, marketing, etc) makes me organize my thoughts and ideas... which means that I get better just because I have to in order to write.
Venting might be closest to the real reason I write. Lord knows I vent. Those are my political posts. But... that doesn't explain why I write other stuff... I think it is a combination between venting and knowledge sharing. As I touched on a moment ago, writing builds my knowledge by organizing my thoughs and ideas.
Many of my posts "just happen". I have to write them. The thoughts occur and I can't put them away... In a way, I am writing to silence the voices in my head (I know that quote is going to come back to haunt me). In fact, a lot of my best posts (maybe not my most popular, but the ones I like the most) are the result of a thought while mowing the lawn or welding in the garage or laying under the Jeep with an impact gun and a rack of sockets. While I am doing these other things, the post is writing itself in my head. My wife has stepped into the garage and seen me just standing there looking at nothing...
So, there it is. I blog in order to get these thoughts out of my head and organized. I get to learn so much while sharing and organizing them...
So, why do YOU blog?
