Act Now to Save Children's Lives in Haiti - Active Rain can Make A Difference

By
Real Estate Agent with Pacific Union International

I've never made an appeal like this but I'm asking every member of the Active Rain community to ACT NOW to help save lives the lives of children in Haiti.   The devastation is beyond anything most of us will ever see, let alone experience.  CNN has reported that over half of Haiti's citizens are under age 18.  If we ACT NOW and donate to relief efforts we can save lives.

Most of us have felt sadness and compassion following other catastrophic disasters and many of us have made donations in the recent past.  Yes, times have been tough for real estate professionals but most of us have a roof over our head right now, plenty of drinking water, and more food than we need.  ACT NOW, ActiveRain friends, and then go kiss your kids, hug anyone else in sight, pet the dog, and get back to your blogging.   Just take a minute or two...right now...to show that you really care.

I made my donation...and it was modest...to Doctor's Without Borders.  We can all afford to donate something...even $5.00 will help.  Which disaster relief organization are you going to chose?  Let's save lives and then get on with selling homes!

I have a friend who was already scheduled to travel down to do some charitable work the end of the month.  I am sending all I can with her.  Not that I don't trust most of the organized charities, but sending it with her I know exactly where it goes and that it gets there in the next 2 weeks.

Kirsten - what a terrific charity to donate too. The horror of what has happened in Haiti is beyond comprehension. And I suspect we will elarn more and more about the realities of the devastation in teh enxt few days. The future is indeed bleak for a long long time.

Glad you posted that - I wonder if there are other ways of helping then just the Red Cross?

Robert:  I hear you on the issue of trust and charitable organizations.  I think the ones I've linked to here, Save The Children, CARE, The Red Cross, and Doctors Without Borders are all highly reputable.

Jeff:  I believe China has seen similar devastation but this little country of Haiti...you've got to wonder how they will recover.  They've had so little for so long.

Liz:  You can Google Haiti Relief and there are many suggestions.  I think if all of us would just give a little bit it would go a very long way.

Anthony:  That's the issue for lots of us.  We think about it but don't do it.  This is why I posted the appeal.  It's interesting to me that few people have responded.  Maybe they've already made donations...I hope so.  What got me going on this was the magnitude of the disaster...how close Haiti is to the U.S...how much we have compared to how little they have.  Just five bucks....it's a cup of coffee and a muffin to us.  It's two day's pay for the average Haitian.

Thanks for sharing this link, Kirsten. Often, folks want to help, but don't know what to do. My heart breaks for the people of Haiti.

Debi:  I think many people do want to help.  All the aid workers and aid organization leaders I've heard today are saying that $$$$ is what is needed most.  We can all donate something to an organization that we trust.  I think if we can we must.

Nick:  It is awesome...but it will never be enough.  They have nothing and whatever any one of us can donate will absolutely help.  It's just a matter of finding the organization that you trust.  Red Cross, Care, Save the Children?

Not many know this but more than half of the people of Haiti are under the age of 18.  Most of them cannot help themselves.  We've all got to step up on this one.
