When you are doing an “all-nighter,” it’s easy to lose track of time!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Richard Weisser Realty

Working day and night in real estateAs I have mentioned several times lately, I have a lot on my plate right now. I am getting along all right, because I have been able to acquire “extra” time by avoiding sleep.

As the clock nears 4:00 A.M. I begin to wonder: Is it really, really late right now, or am I past the point of no return and it’s now very early. These are the kinds of things that you think about after a significant amount of sleep deprivation.

I am going to assume it’s early and start a pot of coffee. I have a long day ahead of me

Hopefully, there will be time to sleep tonight … or tomorrow night … or whatever the heck day it is night!

Every action has a consequence, including depriving yourself of sleep so that you can get things done. A persistent lack of sleep will lead to getting sick more often.

OK that said, when I was in university, I was a chronic all-nighter, and I used this litmus test to see whether it was even worth going to sleep or not: if I had to get up in less than 4 hours, then it would be a sleepless night for me. 4+ hours 'til I had to get up? My eyes are closing. TAKE CARE. -- Tanya in Montreal

Richard, nothing can be so important that you have to stay up all night. Sleep regenerates the body for the next day. Take time out and get some rest.

Hi Richard, hope you get everything done to your satisfaction that needs to be done, and then leave everything behind and get the sleep you need, feeling good about what you've accomplished. Take care.

It is very similar to driving a long distance.  Kind of scary when your last thought was I 95 in N.C. and now you are I-95 in Georgia

Richard:  I hope you get to take a nap at some point today.  And if not, hopefully you won't have any measurable amount of time ahead of you in the car.

Richard:  Hope you won't burn out your energy!  I tend to work late and start very early too.  My teenagers are busy w/homework at night, so they are their own and they leave for school at 6:30.  So I tend to work at night and start working as soon as the kids leave for school.  My husband and I try to remind to each other to have a well balanced life...

Hi Richard...Please take better care of yourself.  It's very hard to catch up with sleep lost and we pay the price sooner or later.  I'm hoping the things that are keeping you busy are good things, nonetheless, please get some good, deep sleep.

Richard~ I hope you will get some mot needed slepp tonight.  Try some lavender scents.  They are very relaxing and calming and they help me when I have sleepless nights.  And I hope whatever is bothering you gets resolved.

Richard, I used to work the 'graveyard' shift all the time. Loved it. I could get a lot done and went on a lot less sleep than when I worked daylight hours.

Richard, if it's business related there is nothing so important that is worth ruining one's health. All we can do is our best and if the clients really want to work with us they will adjust to our schedule. Good Luck.

The body really does need a certain amount of sleep to function.  And, it is so difficult to be awake when the rest of the world is asleep.  Please, do take care...

I tend to agree with Lenn... but then again I'm rather obsessive compulsive... When I'm burning with an idea I just can't stop. Especially when I was in music, I did a lot of all nighters. I'd write music and or arrangements for performances and/or recording sessions... then it was 12:30 or 2:30 AM and the parts still needed to be copied for the rehearsal at 9:00 AM... Somehow I always pulled it off. But simply put, I was so jazzed to hear it, I plowed through.

Then came working in Title Insurance... 8:00 to 5:00... that was tough. The past 10 - 15 years it was more about producing the app, product, web page, marketing program etc. and time was more flexible (which translated to: "your free to work all the overtime you want!" I pulled a lot of all nighters doing that also. There was always something to do, and the special project that you were working, then before you knew it... launch day (or a sales meeting) was tomorrow morning!

Now, since November, it would appear I have all this time on my hands. But I ask daily, where'd it go? Then, around 10:00 PM I get that composers 2nd wind...

I hope all you have on your platter right now is about your passion and to get it done... catnaps work too! But life without coffee, I fear to contemplate. Best wishes...

Richard, look at the bright side. The government needs money and with all the work you are doing, you will more than pay your share. I think I would opt for the sleep.

Sleep is over rated, always has been and always will be. I do a lot of work and a lot of thinking late at night and early into the morning my friend, I have been an insomniac forever.
