There are a lot of companies that are springing up that are willing to take your money to show you how your property shows up online; however, being the frugal Owner/Broker of Progressive Realty Corporation in Boise, Idaho, I would rather do it for free!

All you need to do is use Google Alerts!  (www.Google.com/alerts)

google alerts

Plug in your listing address (make sure to use "123 easy street" in quotes or else you will get all the 123's and all the easy's and all the streets).  Then set up another account for the MLS number.

This is a great way to track the effectiveness of your online campaigns by seeing where your listings show up.  You may also find companies scraping your data without your permission and stealing your leads!

I have found some of my listings show up in very unique places and it also lets me track what I can be doing better by showing me new places that already pull my data that I am not utilizing in my marketing materials.

Since I recently added a graphic on my business card that says "Google Me!"; I also set up an alert for myself and my company so I can make sure I know what people say about me online too.

If you need a Realtor in Boise, Idaho - Google Me!

Wow! I never thought of doing this. I just recently created a gmail account and the applications they have available are utterly amazing. Thanks for a great idea!

Jim, I think that Google alerts are just about the best bargain on the Internet!  I use them a lot.

Google alerts are great but I am not sure why you would need to do this for a listing...why not just Google the address if you want to see where it shows up online? You would get the same info.

Bill,  you can certainly take the time to keep re-googling things or just set up the alert once and choose if you want updates daily or weekly.  I currently have about a dozen alerts set and will keep adding more.  One thing this helps with is maybe when you first googled somehting, you didn't get the results you were after and then someone adds exactly what you wanted to know and it reaches out to let you know without any more effort on your part.

I have alerts set for my kids, my wife, my address, my company, me, my agents and since I am the President of the Ada County Association of Realtors and on several Board of Directors, I set up alerts for them too.

That's a great feature. I think I'm a lot like you. I'm real careful who I spend money w/ for online marketing data, etc. This is a great feature google offers btw. Makes your clients happy too!

Steprep is another way to do this and I've caught many blog posts that my name was mentioned in because of Steprep that Google never saw.

Christopher, you are right on track.  Happy clients - Happy Realtors!

Todd, I hadn't heard of that program before so I will give it a try as well.  Thanks for the heads up.  Wow, I just noticed that you have 900K points!  I wonder if they have the ICON developed for 1 million yet or if you will cause AR to fail trying to deal with it like a Y2K glitch.

Great ideas Jim.  I too have Google alerts set up.  I had to set up files in outlook and create a rule to have them go to.  I was getting a lot of alerts and finding it distracting.  But it sure does help to keep an eye on your online reputation!
