From Mustangs to Maseratis, Fords and Ferraris, Bentleys and Bowties (Chevrolet that is). What a great collection and venue for a fine event. The weather was fabulous at a balmy 76 with a few gusts. Enjoy!
I was hoping to see Ferrari's new replacement for the aging F430 series but it won't be here in the US for another couple of months from what I'm being told. There will be 6,000 units built. Each by hand of course, with roughly half of those slated for US delivery. I do miss the old 12 cylinder vehicles and have had the opportunity to drive Ferrari, Lamborghini, Jaguar and Mercedes varieties which are like finely performing orchestras when cruising quickly. Although these Italian thoroughbreds are surely the coupe de gras of the performance genre there was a little Lotus Exige S which for the $ is about the most fun you can get.
I couldn't tell if this was the famed Ferrari Daytona or it's later cousin the 365 GTB. There's got to be a reader out there who knows the difference. These aren't just automobiles they are art as well. The 300SL Mercedes gullwing coupe had been retired by the time I backtracked to get some pictures of it but here's another fine Mercedes that drew a crowd.
Not to be outdone, American Muscle had a strong contingent also. Some nostalgic picks!
A little customization never hurt either!
I had such a great time there and I hope you've enjoyed these pictures. I have many more for the collection now and will continue to frequent these events through the season. Naples is such a fun place to live and visit I hope you all have a chance to visit here at some time. I do have to say that unfortunately our town fathers have reduced the number of 5th Avenue events which used to bring throngs of visitors to our fantastic downtown and am hoping that this is not a signal of the beginning of the end of an era. Not that Mercato isn't a great venue, I just don't want to see less activity in our historic town.
