Yesterday in Tempe  Arizona as part of the Rock and Roll Marathon, an event called kids rock was held.

Kids from K-8 Grade run a total of 25.2 miles over several months prior to this event.  Then the kids run the last mile (non-competitively) and everyone gets a medal for finishing.  A very nice looking medal!

 

                                          

Over 3000 kids participated in the event!  It is a great way to get kids into a healthy activity while they are young.   My 6 yr old (11.5 min) beat my 8yr old and her 9 yr old friend, but as I said it was non-competitive :)

GOOD MORNING PAUL!  I think this is a great activity and a great way to motivate kids to exercise!  I didn't know this was a part of the event so next year we are sure to do it!  Now let me go read your excuses for not doing it! -- Gab

LOL! It will be worth the trip up here! Just check out their website.  They even have a kick off event for the kids in October

As someone who used to run cross country and track, I would love something like this for my kids. You really could make it a family event and you are right about their health.

I thought all the Rock and Roll Marathons had a kid event, but I just checked Seattle  http://seattle.competitor.com/event-info/  And that doesn't appear to be true
