Marin Scenes by Myrl Jeffcoat

As one travels North Coast routes to Point Reyes National Seashore, they often come upon the settlement of Inverness in Marin County.  The little town was founded about 1889, on the soutwest shore of Tomales Bay.

During the aftermath of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, some refugees unwiittingly relocated to the little hamlet, perched atop the raucous San Andreas Fault.

Inverness boasts several Bed & Breakfast establishments, delightful and casual restaurants, shops, a market with deli, and boating - both commercial and recreational.

Before continuing on to Point Reyes Seashore, which I blogged last week, I stopped long enough to procure a soft drink from the market-deli, and take in views of the an old shipwreck near the banks of the inlet, while a rambunctious dog frolicked in the water nearby!

Many Inverness homes continue in ownership by family descendants of Judge James Shafter, the settlement founder.  Shafter was a Scotsman, and a railroad man.  You will also find the grandnephew of the last Tsar of Russia.  It has also been home to its fair share of artists, writers and scholars.

For more information on Inverness and its town amenties, you can access the Inverness Chamber of Commerce website.

What a lovely area. It reminds me of Ireland. In addition to the photos, I enjoyed reading the history of the area.
