ActiveRain's Membership Surges To 35,000 In First Year

World's Largest Social Networking Site For Real Estate Professionals

Grows Faster Than Wikipedia In Inaugural Year

SEATTLE, July 11, 2007 - ActiveRain, the world's largest social networking site for real estate professionals, marked its one-year anniversary today by surpassing 35,000 members and 120,000 posts, and projecting monthly double-digit growth over the next 12 months.

"ActiveRain's phenomenal growth reflects the fact that the real estate profession is experiencing rapid, fundamental change," said ActiveRain CEO and co-founder Matt Heaton.  "Because eight in 10 residential real estate transactions now start online, blogging and social networking today are as important as having a website or earning your Realtor designation in years past.  ActiveRain is at the center of this movement because it is enabling agents to raise their visibility among buyers and sellers, and generate more leads and sales."

In its first year, ActiveRain's reported the following milestones:

•         Membership grew more than 17% every month.

•         Members averaged 10,000 posts per month.  By comparison, Wikipedia had only 20,000 entries in its first year.

•         Site visits jumped 500% in the past six months to 800,000.

•         More than 13% of site visits exceeded 10 minutes, and 5% spent more than 30 minutes on the site.

•         ActiveRain members are frequent site participants.  In the past three months, 6% visited the site more than 100 times.

•         In June, ActiveRain was named as a finalist for The Inman News Innovator Award in the Most Innovative Media Site category.

"ActiveRain has become the focal point for the online real estate community because its collective voice translates into greater productivity and knowledge for all members," said ActiveRain President and co-founder Jon Washburn.  "The more posts generated at ActiveRain, the greater the likelihood that an agent's entry will be seen online by buyers and sellers, who can then evaluate that individual and their local market expertise.  Powered by this Web 2.0 model, ActiveRain expects monthly double-digit growth over the next 12 months because our members are only becoming more active."

I first became a member of AR because its business model seemed different than anything else I had seen.  It's encouraging to see that AR has more than doubled in size since then, and is destined to become, along with localism.com, one of the most important real estate destinations on the internet!

Pretty cool!  Wonder if they will more than double the membership numbers this time next year compared to now.  I bet it will!  The more people that continue to join, the more chances they have of getting more people to join.

Great job. It's amazing to see something like this grow.  But now I think 37,000 members is enough.  If you had a million members there would just be too much noise.

AR is clearly becoming a major power on the Internet for real estate pros. It's great for us members. Our exposure keeps on expanding. I wonder, however, if it is a tad too rapid for its own good. Sometimes companies and websites and whatnot start losing control of their functions amid fast growth. Just a thought.

PS - One think I wish you would stop is for users referring to you as 'god'.  I know it is in humor and tribute - but it is very offensive, even if the Christian viewpoint is a minority, it should be respected.  Certainly we could not call you guys any term that was socially offensive to any other minority - in fun or not.
