YesterdaSt Croix chickeny afternoon, as I was negotiating an offer for some clients/ friends of mind (wish them luck), my boyfriend sent me a text: "I'm on my way home with wine and chickens."

My assumption was that he'd stopped somewhere and picked up dinner - and just made a typical text typo with the "s" on chicken. Wrong.

He arrived around 5:00 with several bottles of wine (I think I'm going to need them....) and a large planter pot with a CHICKEN in it! A real live chicken!! It is a full grown hen and it is about to become a mother - it's sitting on several eggs! From him about Henrietta's home:  "I wanted some easy and quick coop for her and some way to contain the chicks if they should hatch. Otherwise they will be lunch for other critters.

So I bought this rabbit cage and put it in a tree.  Being as Henrietta wasn't interested in getting out of the pot, I decided I would cut a part of the side out. As I was cutting with my tin snips, I noticed feathers coming out. I trimmed her tail a little..........oops. She was not a happy chicken. But I will make it up to her.

She is getting a new roof and a stereo systems for chickens. And, of course, Kim wants to put in a new tile floor."

Only in St Croix!  (Read Part II.  Henrietta is now a mother.)

Well, I guess it's boring just sitting on three eggs all day with no other hens to chat with. Henrietta finally left her little "brood to be" and flew into the yard, making all kinds of noise (very early Sat. morning, of course.....). She scratched around, came up and helped Chuck as he was working on his boat, and met one of our cats - Carmella. I think Carmella was as surprised as Henrietta!

However - the scare was enough to send Henrietta running back to her roost. Too much excitement in one day, I suppose. This morning - there she sat - not looking particularly content - but doing her job. Can't wait till we have babies!
