Think Abundance, Not Scarcity!

By

money, juggle

So much has happened in the last few weeks that it's hard to remember that just a short time ago, it was the holidays.  Since then, we have had terrorist threats, devastation in Haiti , and late night talk show woes.

In spite of it all, 2010 is in motion and our task is to focus on business and see abundance rather than scarcity.  2010 will be a great year!

One attitude I have seen over and over again in my consulting business is what I call the "scarcity mindset." The premise goes like this: business opportunities are limited, so I have to work with every prospect that comes my way.

Listen up. Stop working with the jerks. Life is too short. The scarcity mindset causes horrible decisions. If people have needs you cannot address, don't. If someone wants commercial property, farmland, or a house outside your area or they want a short sale and you've never done one, refer them to another agent who is qualified to help them.   I guarantee it will be the highest dollar per hour you will make and the client will be better served.

Believe there is plenty of business. So get choosy about working with those who fit your target market and your skills. And remember this: the universe reflects back to you the most dominant thoughts you have. Do your thoughts support your vision for your business? If not, the consciousness of the thoughts you are putting out there is the first step to changing your negative thought patterns.

Once again we get back to attitude and mindset!  Your business is out there, waiting for you to grab i!

In conclusion, a little humor.

I agree...it is the attitude that we embrace that leads us to our experience of life. Thanks for the reminder.

Tom, you have made a crucial point. Sounds like you were a great sales manager as you got a lot of people on the right track. It's quality not quantity when you are sorting through prospects.

Good for you, Karen.  it's important to share knowledge.

Attitude is everything, John!

Overcoming the scarcity mindset isn't easy when all you hear on the news is unemployment, pay cuts, etc. etc. - But that doesn't make it less important!

You are so right about taking on the wrong clients. As a copywriter I've taken jobs I should have turned down. Now I have a short list of subject matter that's an automatic "No thank you."

I also have a rule that says if I am not comfortable conversing with a person or their project is too vague in their own minds to convey clearly, I back away. That's not to say I won't help someone figure out what they need, but they have to at least have an outcome in mind!

Work with people you enjoy and every day is like play.

As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. How many people truly miss the opportunities that lie right in front of them simply because of the way they think. Change that, and things will start flowing your way.

Very true, Marta. It's one thing to buy a jug of milk from a clerk who rubs you the wrong way, but you better click with clients who you are involved in a more extensive business relationship with.

William. you're right. Even as adults we need to evaluate to make sure thinking is not poisoning our actions.

Absolutely my own experience.  Stubbornly hanging onto a "bad" client will consume energy better spent elsewhere.  Let that Client (likely never to be real business) go and open up your life for a better experience.

I learned the No Jerkrule the hard way in a different business and fell into a couple of time earlier in my career ... Even with strong boundaries toxic people have the ability to foul my life by taking my energy away from things that increase my wellness.

Bob, LOL, the No Jerk rule, huh?  One persons's jerk is another person's bread & butter! It's good to recognize which one the client is!

Good points, all.  Just the other day, someone was telling me that 3 or 4 Realtors from his office were turning in their licenses. There are opportunities for those of us committed to the business. Just because stats might say that business is down that we should take business that is not suited for us!
