Blogging it All
Real Estate vs. "Fluff" Content
The battle is never over between those who want only real estate content on ActiveRain and those who want to write about recipes, gardens, family, and life. That's the way it should be. Blogging is the ultimate solo activity and there are going to be hundreds of styles and techniques that people adopt and invent. I like to think of concrete as a good metaphor for the ActiveRain blogging mix. Cement without reinforcing steel is brittle and weak. Steel without the rigidity of cement is too flexible and sensitive to moisture. Marry the two with some sand and gravel and you get the world's most useful building material.
ActiveRain needs the real estate writing contributions from people thinking about the future of the industry. And more:
- Posted listings show vitality in different commuities.
- Stories of short sale woes and troublesome banks alert us all to potential problems we will encounter.
- Funny posts about problem clients or our own foibles keep us engaged with the joy of this business and develop our sense of community.
If you want an impersonal blog that focuses just on real estate, you can easily start your own private blog. If you want to participate in a vibrant, active community of users who embrace the world in full, ActiveRain is where you should continue to participate.
I haven't seen a survey of AR users, but I would imagine that among us we have every hobby, every sport, every favorite vacation spot, every religion, every political belief, and every favorite food. Anybody who writes about these topics enriches us all. We don't have to read every post. We aren't penalized for writing or not writing about anything in particular. We are only encouraged to be part of the community, to comment and write posts, and to try and make our posts interesting.
There are other real estate sites that are pushing blogs and trying to create a social fabric. Most of us probably spend some time hanging out on other sites. None of them comes close to ActiveRain's user base and vibrant content generation. So, choose sides in the real estate vs. fluff battles if you want. I will continue to embrace it all.
