No Man Is an Island

My 2nd-grade daughter had a school project to do over the weekend.  She had to pick her favorite land mass and make a diorama.  She chose to make an island.  So, the first thing I did was have her make a sketch of what her island would look like.  Based on that, we went to the store and purchased the materials she needed (blue posterboard for the water and colored modeling clay to make the island, palm trees and animals).  Then we gathered the tools she would require: scissors and glue.  Finally, we cleared a space on a table so she'd have plenty of room to work.

At this point, my wife was afraid that I would make the island for my daughter, but I didn't.  I just watched her roll the clay and make the shapes, putting everything in its place according to her hand-drawn plan.  And it turned out great!  The island was centered on the board, the palm trees were straight and the animals were to scale.  We all considered it a success.

Thinking about it today, I was comparing the process to what we do at Obbee.  At Obbee, we don't make the sales calls for our customers.  If someone needs insurance, or a mortgage, or a loan modification, no one at Obbee offers those goods or services.  Instead, just like I did for my daughter, we provide the resources to allow our clients to "complete their projects"- to be successful.  We don't go to the store; we use a wide array of internet resources to develop qualified real-time prospect lists.  Then we sit back and watch the sales get made, as vendors are matched up to people with specific needs... and we all consider that a success as well!
