While it is past swimming weather temps are often warm enough that you can be very confortable in a jacket, so a walk on the semi secluded beach can be invigorating without being to frigid.
Winter is also a great time for shell collectors to comb the beach. With fewer people on the beach means fewer people to pickup shells. Fall and winter storms stir up sand and wash new shells on the beach, without the season crowds to quickly pick them up.
Same goes to the treasure hunters and anyone fascianted by metal detectors. Churned up sand leaves new treasures to find, and again fewer people looking for them.
