The City of Valparaiso has listed the project to build a new roundabout on the northside as top two in it's road construction priorities heading into 2010.  The roundabout, proposed for the five-way intersection of North Calumet, Vale Park, and Roosevelt near Urschel Laboratories, is planned for 2012 at a cost of just over $1.7 Million in federal dollars.

The city's first roundabout, completed in 2007, is located at the intersections of Lincolnway, Laporte, and Sturdy Roads on the near eastside.  This location is near Valparaiso University and the new Eastgate Shopping corridor.

I heard they are also planning a roundabout at Silhavy and Vale Park Rd.  Do you know if this is true?

Thanks for your comment, and sorry it took a while to respond, but it sounds like Valparaiso is talking about smaller roundabouts in many areas.  The Silhavy and Vale Park one would make sense, as there always seem to be backups at that location.  I have not been able to confirm anything yet.  The other locations I've found include Washington Street and Franklin.  Stay tuned.

The roundabout explosion in coming to Valparaiso.  Looks like you are right Matt, Mayor Costas is committed to traffic calming circles, which actually move traffic quicker but safer through these complicated and sometimes dangerous intersections.  While other communities in Indiana are cutting all infrastructure investment, Valparaiso has really been investing over the last 6 years.
